War and Intrigue in 2nd Century China

Created: 27/05/06
Romance of the Three Kingdoms VII is a big evolution of the classic strategy serie from Koei. While in the previous chinese opus you had to play the ruler of one of the numerous factions, now you can play any character present in the ROTK universe. You can be in the shoes of mighty Lu Bu or wise Zhuge Liang.

Romance VII possess a good mix between depth/complexity and plain simplicity. The management of units types are pure simple, you only had to forge a weapon for a officer and his unit, whenever 5000 or 20000 will be equiped! The Fame and Deed system add challenge and competition against differents characters. Being more famous and deed-worthy will give officers more soldiers capacities and also the possibility of been China next favorite hero.

Battle are enough easy to anyone with a minimum knack in tactic to win fights but ploy and strategies will give more options and depth for experimented aficionados without been overwhelming.

The game is quite fast with only loading for battle or champion/poetry contests. The computer manage every NPCs of the game. Unless you are the ruler, his right-arm, or more local prefects, you can't give orders to others.

Graphics are not in 3d but are OK. The portraits of the characters are well drawn. The music of the game is excellent, ma lot better than the music of the eighth opus of the serie.

Romance VII in my opinion is a true classic game. One the best of the ROTK serie and an excellent strategy pick for PS2. A must have for fan or strategy players

RTK VII is simply one of the best of the series. This game has everything you need to play it over and over again. It is challenging (but not overly challenging), and really gives so many options that the old Nintendo does not. It really was a tremendous leap for the series. What is really great about this game is that it is not OVERKILL on the strategy. RTK VIII and IX are very technical and for me are really not that interesting. This game will give you great background music, chinese history and just pure fun. I highly endorse this game. It is the SECOND BEST RTK ever behind only RTK X. Get this and you will not be dissappointed.

Romance of the Three Kindoms VII.

Out of all the ROTK's that are out there, including 8, 9 and 10. 7 is the best for picking the game basics and running with it. I find that 7 has the perfect blend of elements to make this one of the best rpg strategy game of all time. ROTK 8,9 and 10 get way to complicated with all kinds of things when you are running your emperor.

You could play many situations where you could start at the bottom and become emperor. Or just start out as the emperor and command your troops, control cities and villages, make friends or declare war on your enemies. Anyone starting out this game, I would start out on the lowest rank because you will pick up more of the game this way.

This game has real depth so be prepared to crack out for hours, lose your job and your wife & kids will take off on you...just kidding but you get the point. A must have for any RPG or Strategy fan.
