Roots (DVD, 2007, 4-Disc Set)

Although I have not watched the copy I purchased from Ebay yet, allow me to tell you that "ROOTS" is must watch video. First let me explain to you that anybody and everybody from sports, literature, and entertainment are in the cast. If you were a star in the 60's or 70's, you were in Roots. The series shows - quite graphically and historically accurately - the true horrors of institutional slavery in America. It doesn't matter if the sound is not as good as on earlier versions as some reviewers have stated. This mini-series tells us of one of the darkest periods in human history. This series is based off of the book "ROOTS" by Alex Haley. It is a long book (about 750 pages), and so I'm glad that ABC did a 7 part mini-series as opposed to a 2 or 3 part series. I would advise all Americans to see this series at least once. Not just African Americans, but ALL Americans.

I purchased the DVD of Roots because my 22 year old son had never seen the mini-series. Obviously he was not around when it was on television so many years ago. The DVD was excellent and made me remember the fabulous mini-series , how great the acting is and the impact that it can have on you. My son loved the DVD. This is definitely a DVD that you should watch with your family (not little children) and then discuss over the dinner table. We should never forget this terrible part of our history and what we did to a grounp of innocent people.

The story and filming is awesome. My only complaint comes from the second DVD in the last couple of episodes. There are segments where the main picture is reduced to a little square and most of the screen is taken up by the stars doing some sort of commenting. That was set in there and i couldn't get it to not do that. So for a few minutes you would get stars like Sandy Duncan talking about their role, totally removing the effect of the film. What a ruin I could care a less about what those bozos had to say. But the story was great. I just wouldn't buy this version again.

I love the roots dvd, I saw it once as a teenager and was hoping I could own it one day. It took a long time but I finally got it, the movie shows how black people were treated when they first came to America during slavery, and it is my history and I plan to keep it and pass it down to my grandchildren in the near future, my children and I watched it as a family and will continue to do so, thank you so much. The only thing I dislike about it is that I didn't own it sooner.

The epic drama of ROOTS depicts the institution of slavery that is deeply ingrained in American history. I have not seen any re-broadcast of it since is was presented on TV in the mid 70's, and I wanted it as a part of my personal library. I have found my purchase of ROOTS from ebay to be very rewarding, and I look forward to all future endeavors with ebay.
