    Industry Reviews
"Stephen King's fiction is crowded with ingenious monsters, but few of them are as disturbing as Norman Daniels, the lethal figure stalking the heroine of Mr. King's latest novel, 'Rose Madder'....Rose doesn't leave Norman because she's afraid he'll kill her--she's driven to escape by the fear that he won't, that his cruel torments will simply go on and on. Her despair, her gradual creation of a new life..., her hesitant romance with a wry, gentle pawnbroker, are all convincingly rendered. The theme of abuse has given Mr. King's recent novels a welcome jolt of energy."
New York Times Book Review - Richard E. Nicholls (07/02/1995)

"The temptation is always to respond, schoolmarmishly: If only young Steve would stop goofing off with those E.C. Comics and apply himself, he might make a real writer someday! Only, of course, young Steve has applied himself and become the most successful writer in the universe....'Rose Madder' certainly won't disappoint King's golden horde of fans, but this eerie and remarkably mature work may even win over some readers from literature's garden party district--if they don't mind stepping through a few puddles of gore and goo along the way."
Washington Post Book World - Elizabeth Hand (06/18/1995)
