    Album Notes
Personnel: Ravi Coltrane (soprano & tenor saxophones); Ralph Alessi (trumpet, flugelhorn); Geri Allen, Andy Milne (piano); James Genus (bass); Eric Harland (drums).Recorded at Systems Two Recording, Brooklyn, New York from February 11 to December 7, 1999.Personnel: Ravi Coltrane (soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone); Ralph Alessi (trumpet, flugelhorn); Geri Allen, Andy Milne (piano); Eric Harland (drums).Audio Mixers: Joseph Marciano; Ravi Coltrane.Recording information: Systems Two Recording Studio, Brooklyn, NY (02/11/1999-12/07/1999).Photographer: Robert Lewis .In many ways, Ravi Coltrane has followed quite well in the footsteps of his father, the legendary John Coltrane. Performing with drummer Elvin Jones and other players who worked with the elder Coltrane, Ravi continues to propel his father's musical dream, carrying the elan of deep, probing, saxophone-driven jazz into the 21st century.Coltrane's group, highlighted by the impressive trumpet stylings of Ralph Alessi and pianist Geri Allen, blends together sweet melodic sensibilities with angular harmonic underpinnings. The music pushes tonal boundaries (as modern jazz is wont to do), but the mostly original track list never sounds forced or strained. Standouts include the lush ballad, "Consequence" and the delicate swing of "Blues A La Carte," the latter of which is an extraordinary homage to tenor and soprano sax great Wayne Shorter.

    Editorial Reviews
3.5 stars out of 5 - ...Takes him away from Steve Coleman's sphere and into his own production values...finding him falling under the musical spell of his famed father...
    Down Beat (20001101)

...Features some smart modern-day bop tunes....More lush and delicate sounding than his debut...
