Rounders
Created: 11/02/11
Rounders is a poker movie based in New York city starring Matt Damon & Edward Norton.
Matt Damon's character(Mike) likes to play the game straight up, while his best friend(Worm)is alway's looking for an edge.
I don't wanna give to much away but long story short, Worm gets in deep with the wrong people and relies on Mike for a way out.
A must see in my opinion!

Gives you an idea what you go through as a high stakes poker player. The Highs, the lows, the relationships that you make in this game is always at risk. Matt Damon is SOLID in this role as Mike. He gives up gambling for law school after LOSING his bank role in a high stakes poker game. Ed Norton is an absolute LOOSE CANNON!! Norton really shines in his role as WORM. VERY brilliant actor I may add. He steals the show in this movie with his character. John Malkovich is AWESOME as Teddy KGB!! a RUTHLESS card shark - VERY convincing. John Turturro and Martin Landau have GREAT roles also and round out this terrific poker movie.
If your a card player you can relate to this film on all levels. VERY well done.
Personal Rating: "A MUST HAVE!!"
Belongs in EVERY Players Collection!!

A Modern Day Classic Movie
Created: 08/05/07
When I think of current classics, this title certainly jumps to the top of the list! It's one of those movies that seems to get better and better each time you see it. If you haven't seen it, then get the DVD and watch it.
Immediately you will be entrenched by the cinemaphotography. The color and tone of the movie really sets the mood, as this is a movie about back room card games, and the players who are successful at beating them (Rounders).
Christopher Young did an unbelievable job at the musical score... the music really sets the tone throughout (of course this isn't something you're really noticing when you first watch it).
The dialogue is steller, as the writers did their research on this subject very thoroughly. There's plenty of references to some of the greatest poker players in the history of the game, from Doyle Brunson to Johnny Chan. Malkovich's performance is probably his most memorable. Matt Damon is at his best!
Yes, this is a great gambling movie, but the movie's undertone is more of preservering through adversity. It's also about owning up to your true passions in life instead of living by everyone's expectations. Therefore, this movie is a must watch for those of us looking for inspiration in the face of insurmountable odds.

If you play poker, this is required reading!!

What to say about Rounders that hasn't already been said? It makes the perfect gift for the Poker player on your shopping list right after Doyle Brunson's Super System I & II and right before a plane ticket to Vegas or Atlantic City.
For starters, with 10x WSOP bracelet winner Johnny Chan making an appearance you have to think the movie has some credibility. For the non-player it still presents the story and the action in such a way that you can still follow along. For the seasoned player, don't worry... It doesn't dumb things down. Actually, it's a great movie to watch with your significant other (The girlfriend is portrayed as intolerant of his card playing... Your s/o will SOOOO not want to be like HER!!)
The best reason to watch the movie (aside from the great performances) is the fact that over the last 8 years, this movie has inspired so many people to pick up Texas Hold 'Em. If you were going to a Star Trek convention without seeing a single episode, you might be a little confused when people make references to the show. Do people REALLY make references to Rounders at a poker table?!?? ALL THE TIME... A few times catching a subtle reference to Rounders helped me pick up that the guy across the table from me was trying to pull some moves a la Matt Damon's character Mike McDermott... The most recent time was in the Poker Room @ the Excalibur in Las Vegas and before I start telling a story, let's just say the movie paid for itself 20x over with that hand alone.
Baseball fans love "The Natural" or "Field of Dreams"... Hockey fans like "Slap Shot" and "Miracle". "Rounders" is THE MOVIE for the Poker fans.
BID ON IT ALREADY!!!

BEST POKER MOVIE EVER
Created: 11/09/09
Anyone who plays cards should own this movie. Matt Damon and Edward Norton do an amazing job in the role of two rounders jumping from game to game trying to pay back Nortons (Worm) debet he racked up while doing time. "Grand-ma", a partner with KGB pushes these two card sharks to pay the 15K owned in just a few days. While Matt is raking in the cash, norton is working his profected base dealing, which gets both caught in a game with some off duty law enforcement. After getting the beating of a life time, Damon presuades a well off professor to lend him 10K to buy them some time. Damon, instead of paying the debet down, stacks up with KGB for a second time to gain his pride back.
get out the lays and cold beer .... ITS GREAT !
