Album Notes
Cream: Eric Clapton (vocals, guitar); Ginger Baker (vocals, drums); Jack Bruce (bass guitar). The turn of the millennium seemed to be the age of reunions, and Cream's re-teaming for a series of shows (the specifics can be found in the album's rather ineloquent title: ROYAL ALBERT HALL: LONDON 2-3-5-6 2005) kept pace with that trend. Although nearly 40 years had elapsed since the legendary power trio first called it quits, there is still a fair bit of the serious chemistry, technical wizardry, and swirling energy that made Cream's music so vital in the 1960s.The set list features the usual suspects (their hopped-up cover of Skip James's "I'm So Glad" and the canonic riff-ology of "Sunshine of Your Love," among others), with some expected space left for the musicians to stretch out. The band still sounds powerful, if not as wild and searching as they did in the '60s (guitarist Eric Clapton, in particular, sounds a bit reserved). ROYAL ALBERT HALL would not be the place for the Cream novice to start (DISRAELI GEARS or BBC SESSIONS would be a better bet), but the group does manage to recapture some of their former magic, which is impressive considering their age (they're all in their 60s) and all the water that's passed under the bridge since their heyday.

Editorial Reviews
4 stars out of 5 - [T]his double CD captures the joyful reaffirmation of just how weirdly wonderful Cream were - through force of each personality demanding space.

Fantastic Reunion Concert

Created: 07/07/07
The days leading up to the much anticipated reunion between Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton, were exciting. In the late 1960's, Cream developed a sophisticated style of music, blending jazz and blues into a highly progressive rock format, defined by blistering guitar solos, previously unheard drum patterns and a bass section that rivaled the lead guitar. The reunion of these superstar musicians, bridged the gap created nearly 37 years earlier, when the band left the music scene. Their performance at the Royal Albert Hall (London) was purely fantastic. A throwback to the days of extended solos and improvisational work, no longer available in rock music. The musicians sounded fresh and tight. Although the songs were not as long as the original releases back in the 1960's, they provided a look into a period of imaginary sounds and unbridled creativity rarely seen over the years. This collection of music from the reunion tour of 2005, is a must for any serious follower of 1960's era progressive rock. A sound seldom heard in today's world.

This is a fantastic recording of a historic event.Besides hearing these great songs again and some not performed live by Cream before (Badge,Outside Woman Blues)is the fact that the playing is superb.Eric Clapton's solos are so inspired! He hasn't run off licks like this in years proving he still has it when he wants to let loose.A great collection for all Cream fans and any guitar lover.

Loved it. I was going to the Fillmore and Winterland back in the day of great bands, great music and Bill Graham only charging a few bucks to see three awesome bands. I always tell my kids about the "good old days" when you could afford to go to concerts. But the great ones are still the best. Cream was and continues to be a legend along with Eric Clapton and Santana and the ones that have stood the test of time plus Ginger Baker's solo. Come on that's classic. Had to show my sons what they missed. Fantastic cd. And for a great price. I know where i will be buying more from this buyer. Thanks for the great memories. Mo Chuisle

Geezer rock

The songs did not hit me like they did 30 years ago, but then, nothing does.
I saw the performance on PBS. I think Geezer roack makes us feel both young and old, at the same time, but primarily good
