Movie synopsis

Director Gary Fleder (THINGS TO DO IN DENVER WHEN YOU'RE DEAD, KISS THE GIRLS) tackles best-selling novelist John Grisham's tale of jury manipulation in RUNAWAY JURY. Jury consultant Rankin Fitch (Gene Hackman) can spin any jury in favor of his client. At least he always could before. But his latest job may turn out to be his most challenging. As an explosive civil case goes to trial in New Orleans, Fitch thinks he has arranged for the perfect jury and has the verdict sealed in favor of his client, a gun manufacturer. Soon, however, he starts receiving phone calls from the mysterious Marlee (Rachel Weisz), who claims that she can turn the jury any way she wants and--for a price--she'll spin it his way. Meanwhile, Marlee is making the same offer to the plaintiff's lawyer, Wendell Rohr (Dustin Hoffman), a Southern gentleman who always plays by the rules. Marlee's insider is Juror #9, Nick Easter (John Cusack), who is working with her to influence his fellow jurors. Are these two just grifters in it for the money, or do they have another agenda? The audience is kept guessing until the very end.

Good Movie - Powerful & Controversial topic

Created: 08/09/06
This movie starts out with a bang and then rolls into a courtroom drama with different angles emerging as the story continues.. This is a powerhouse cast with the likes of Gene Hackman, John Cusack, Dustin Hoffman & Rachel Weisz.. This movie is based on the John Grisham best selling novel of the same name.. Runaway Jury also has a landmark scene were Gene Hackman & Dustin Hoffman are in the same scene for the first time ever.. With their impressive history in the film industry I was surprised at this bit of trivia.. The movie runs just a little long for me but is well worth watching..

DVD Runaway Jury

In this drama Nick Easter gets himself on the jury of a landmark case against a gun manufacturer and, as the foreman, tries to influence the other jury members to vote a certain way. Meanwhile, Easter's girlfriend, Marlee, tries to swindle the attorneys to pay millions of dollars to have the jury return a verdict friendly to their clients. A great thriller!

Runaway Jury Runaway Hit

Yes this is a book movie but don't worry about that. A fine cast is assembled for a scary look at our legal system and whether or not money can buy you a verdict. The plot revolves around a lawsuit brought by the widow of a shooting spree killer. She takes on the gun manufacturers and they hire Gene Hackman to get their type of people onto the jury. Rachel Weisz and John Cusack show up as two partners trying to sell the jury to the highest bidder as Cusack is a jury member.Lots of twists and turns.12 angry men on steroids best describes this.

The Runaway Jury

Created: 01/02/07
I am a teacher and I use one of John Grisham's novels in my English I Honors class. I teach the novel, Bleachers, but I want to expose my students to a wider variety of his novels. I show the movie, The Runaway Jury, at the end of the unit on Bleachers as a reward for their hard work and to excite their interest in reading some of Grisham's other novels. The movie is wonderful and the class response is always positive.

Runaway Jury Worth it for Hackman and Hoffman together!

Created: 04/05/08
Loved the suspense and incredible acting. Gene Hackman vs Dustin Hoffman... 'nuf said!! Younger actors are great too and the story is very good.
However, since it is a "hollywood" movie; they don't exactly bother with the truth in all cases, and for those who know better that's fine. However, it does cast a bad light on the judicial system in our country, not that it needed any help!
As far as an entertaining movie, it is great stuff and definently worth the money! Hope this helps.
