The most striking thing was that they did it with zero attitude and unassuming, melodic tunes humbly presented with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of memorability. That trend continues on the band's second album, A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD.There's little stylistic alteration from PARACHUTES here, which is just fine, considering how enormously and instantly appealing that style is. While Travis, Elbow, and other entrants in the Britpop sweepstakes offer a not dissimilar sound, none can communicate with the honest immediacy and directness of Coldplay. Part of the key, apart from melodies so ridiculously catchy as to make Belle & Sebastian sound like Public Image Ltd., may be their working-class sense of all-for-one proletarianism (though not in the breast-beating Oasis manner). Even on "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face," when Chris Martin goes so far as to offer a few boastful phrases, the ultimate sentiment that comes across is the refrain "your guess is good as mine."

A Rush of Blood to the Head by Coldplay

Created: 08/04/11
I absolutely love this album! I'm 55 years old and had never heard of Coldplay until I bought “Hope for Haiti” and heard their song “A Message (2010)”. That became my favorite song, so I browsed the iTunes store and listened to snippets of their songs. When I searched eBay for Coldplay CDs, I bought “Parachutes” for dirt cheap. After several listens, I was quite surprised to find that I really did enjoy their music. I asked my 20–something-year-old son what he thought of Coldplay. He didn't care too much for them because they were not “headbangers” (my word, not his). I took this as a good sign because I'm not too fond of most of the music he likes. Next, I bought “A Rush of Blood to the Head” (again, dirt cheap from eBay!). This is an astonishingly good CD from beginning to end. If music had bloodlines like thoroughbred racehorses, I would bet that this CD was a direct descendant of Pink Floyd's “Dark Side of the Moon”. Since then, I purchased X&Y and am now biding my time waiting for their most recent CD to become affordable."A Rush of Blood to the Head" is still my first selection when I have time to listen. I have to admit that the lyrics are enigmatic, at best, incomprehensible, at worst; but that too is part of what makes this CD so special–you want to keep listening to find the hidden meaning buried in each song. As a “Senior Citizen” I am thrilled to discover that GREAT rock music is still being made!

Good, but not quite what I was looking for

Created: 08/04/08
Ahh, Coldplay, one of the best known acts around, so I decided to give them a shot. I wasn't too impressed with this album, but it does seem to be better than most of the crap being put out in this genre today. While it does have it's shining moments(Warning Sign, Clocks, The Scientist, Green Eyes), it seems that there's a bit too much filler here. While this record is undoubtedly a great pop record, it doesn't quite meet up to my standards. At least it helps to vary my music collection.

This CD was probably tied with X&Y for my favorite album from Coldplay. I love Coldplay's music, especially listening to it on a spring day. If you're like me and you have memories which each song that you like, you'll wanna pick a nice sunny day to listen to this one...I remember getting it for Easter and it brings me back to nice days every time I hear this CD.
Best tracks: Warning Sign, Clocks, The Scientist and Green Eyes.

Absolutely Perfect

Created: 26/01/10
I love this album and I am very glad that I decided to buy it. It starts out with real music, like the perfect mood setter for pretty much anything, then it kind of takes you on a journey through a very soothing and relaxing experience. Now I'm not one to preach about what music is and what we should all listen to, but if you listen to the album for the first time like I did, you'll find yourself actually listening to the music and nothing else. It was quite the trip into tranquility of music. I give it an excellent rating because not only do I love Coldplay, but they've been in my life and my mind for quite some years now. I use to wake up and get ready for school (6th grade) watching the music video for "Clocks" on Mtv almost every morning. Love that song then, and now I'm 19 and I still can let it seep into my brains and as I get older, I just appreciate it even more, so I reccommend this album to any music lover, it is a must have!

A sophomore album that is as good as the first

Created: 13/01/06
The second album from Coldplay and jsut as deserving praise. With multiple awards won for this album, each is definitely worth their weight. The smooth singing style of Chris Martin and beautiful piano pieces, make this album good for any occasion, except maybe a rave. You won't be disappointed with this purhcase and may burn your CD player out playing it.
