Movie synopsis

Viktor Taransky (Al Pacino) is a washed-up director. The beautiful Nicola (Winona Ryder), has just walked off the set of his last film, and the head of the studio--who also happens to be his ex-wife (Catherine Keener)--has just cancelled his contract. Just as a virtually hopeless Taransky is left wondering what is wrong with Hollywood, inventor Hank Aleno (Elias Koteas) presents him with a bombshell: a virtual actress. Created from computer code, Hank's invention--deemed S1M0NE from the abbreviated Simulation 1 and morphed into Simone for the masses--is beautiful, talented, and breathtakingly real. Soon, Taransky is editing Simone's image into his films and creating masterpieces. He devises elaborate schemes to make Simone appear to be human, all the while masterminding her every move. As Simone becomes an international superstar, a bewildered Taransky is left to wonder how real Simone actually is and how much power she has over him. But his attempts to sabotage her career only drag him further into the media frenzy that his creation attracts. Written and directed by Andrew Niccol (GATTACA), S1M0NE proves to be an interesting and insightful look at the movie business and the star-hungry media.

Simone is so unexpected!!!

Created: 26/12/10
I just loved watching Simone. Who would have ever thought that having a computer simulated actress in a movie was brilliant! This movie is funny one moment and the next your holding your breath, waiting,... watching to see what happens next. I would recommended this movie to my friends, family, and to everyone else. Al pacino, plays a director/moviemaker... tired of dealing with tempermental actresses and actors, stumbles apon a goldmine. A computer program that can take the place of any moody actress he wants. Introducing SIMONE! He tries to keep her a secret from the world and not reveal that she's only a computer program in his movie and not really a real woman, acting in those scenes. But eventually he gets to the point where he wants to tell the truth about Simone. But no one believes him! The entire world has already fallen in love with her,... she's everyone's favorite moviestar! No one believes, or... wants to believe that they have been duped. She looks completely alive, flesh and blood, how can you say she's not real?! See for yourself! Laugh out loud funny.! I give it four and a half stars.

Interesting flick.

This film was intriguing in its exploration of reality, and for that reason, I found it enjoyable. It might have been the director's intention to convey the abstract-ness of the world of the computer age and virtual reality. I have to admit, however, I missed the passionate taste of life in this film. The characters were too cardboard and shallow in nature. The story didn't penetrate enough into the spirit and passion of what it means to be human; and for that reason, the film's experience left me wanting. But then again, that may have been the director's intent to communicate such a lifeless and empty world.

Great movie - A classic by Pacino

Created: 13/07/08
This is one of my FAVORITE movies. Al Pacino is legendary and every film he stars in turns to gold. I'm surprised that so little people know about this movie, but in my opinion, this is a great movie for lazy summer nights, girl nights, date nights, party nights, etc.

Fun and Interesting Movie

Created: 30/08/06
I liked it a lot. Al Pacino is great as usual. It's a fresh concept to the average story. I liked the idea that pompous and difficult actors can be replaced by technology. This was done in Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. They used voice actors but everything else visually was done by CG. There are some really funny situations in this film and Catherine Keener is good too. I originally saw this film on cable and liked it so much that I bought it on dvd.

Simone starring Al Paccino

Created: 13/05/08
Intriguing flick. This was a relative unknown movie, even though it stars Al Paccino. Al Paccino is a sci fi type movie, no less. And get this, Al Paccino in a movie where there is no sex or violence and basicly no swearing. This is an interesting movie that comments on our society's unwavering ability to celebrate celebrity at all costs.
