Safe People: How to Find Relationships That Are Good for You and Avoid Those That Aren't by Henry Cloud and John Townsend (1996, Paperback)

This is an excellent book for those who consider themselves good people and desperately want a good relationship but find themselves in bad ones over and over again. Yes, you are doing something wrong and this book has the answers IF YOU APPLY THEM. It is written by a Christian counselor who backs up his points with brief passages from the Bible, yet the book is not so overly religious that it is obnoxious. (a hard test to pass with me because I can't take much of that stuff) This book helped me to see what I was doing wrong and right it, and it is not just for romantic relationships but will work with friendships as well. It changed my life.

THis is the best book you will ever find to help you develop safe relationships. It helps you identify unsafe people of the past and unsafe people you may encounter in the future.

I bought the book to send to a friend to try to help him discover what is unsafe in him (which we all have some unsafe traits) and what he can do about it. We are studying this book in our singles Bible study group to learn how to have safe relationships with others.

I like it in that it is straightfoward, to the point, but doesn't condemn at the same time, and that it gives examples with people in it (but not their real names).

I actually first found out about the book at a seminar given by a local church about having safe relationships, and the speaker used this particular book, so I told someone at my own church about it, then he began a group for singles and is currently using this book as a study.

I would recommend this book to everyone.

This book is a must read for all Christians. I have taught it in the classroom and also applied it to my own life. Regardless of where you find yourself in life with respect to relationships, Safe People will help you. You will learn to choose people for friendships that are safe and responsible people.

I marvel at how God gives wisdom and insight to His servants, those who spend their lives in helping others. These 2 doctors are just such people, and the information contained in "Safe People" might seem obvious to some, but for me, much of it escaped me all my life; dysfunction is the result, and unhappiness, and not being able to live up to my full potential as Jesus would have me to be. This is truly a life-changing book, IF you let the LORD of Life in...He's the One that does the changing, and you will grow into a beautiful person for Him. Some might not like the heart-work it takes to
use it, but change doesn't come without that most of the time.
