Album Notes
Recorded at Rock City, Shepperton, England; The Truck Mobile at Clearwater Castle, Gloucestershire, England; Brittania Row, Battery Studios, London. When Whitesnake hit it big in the late '80s with its power-pop/metal one-two punch, many new fans were unaware that earlier in the band's career, David Coverdale and co. were straight ahead, bluesy hard rockers, especially on their 1982 release, SAINTS & SINNERS.The album is best known amongst longtime Whitesnake fans as the one that features two songs that would be re-recorded and molded into melodic rockers for the band's 1987 U.S. commercial breakthrough, WHITESNAKE--"Crying in the Rain" and "Here I Go Again." Also included were such lesser-known highlights as "Young Blood," "Bloody Luxury," and "Rough An' Ready," making SAINTS & SINNERS one of the fiercest, most rocking albums of Whitesnake's career.

Classic Snake, the way it used to be!!

Created: 30/06/08
Before the big hair and Tawny Kitaan, Whitesnake made really good music. Not taking anything away form their later releases, this is more raw and down to Earth. Original versions of Here I go Again and Crying in the Rain can be found on here, and both in my opinion are better than the over processed 1987 release.
One of the top 3 best Whitesnake albums of all time.

Everything old is new again.

I bought this to hear the original versions of Here I go again and Crying in the Rain. It was interesting to hear in this version of HIGA they opted to use the word hobo which was replaced by drifter in the remake. Still seems like an odd choice of words even for '82. Other than that its note for note the same. There was a third song on here that I think was redone with alternate lyrics and released on the Slide it In album. Its a solid blues rock album, not quite as good as Come 'n Get It but a worthy listen for Whitesnake fans.

Saints & Sinners - underated in many music/rock circles

Created: 04/10/09
I had this as a vinyl some years ago but had traded it in at a CD store as my music tastes changed. Recently however, I was reviewing some Whitesnake music after having my interest in the band rekindled by the 2008 classic 'Good to be bad'. I read some reviews of the Whitesnake catalogue at allmusic.com and was surprised to read the mediocre response to Saints & Sinners and the glowing review of 'Slide it In'. I purchased the latter and have to say it was OK but in my opinion not as revolutionary as the review made it out to be. So, I went about ordering 'Saints and Sinners' and was much more impressed by the production and song writing than what I deem the 'overated' Slide it In. I'm not going to review track by track but suggest strongly that you have this CD in your collection for the 'original versions' of the reworked tracks on '1987' alone.
