Album Notes
Savage Garden: Daniel Jones (vocals, guitar, keyboards, programming); Darren Hayes (vocals).Additional personnel: Rex Goh (guitar); Alex Hewitson (bass); Terapai Richmond (drums, percussion).Personnel: Daniel Jones (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Darren Hayes (vocals, background vocals); Rex Goh (guitar); Charles Fisher (viola); Jackie Orzaczky (Fender Rhodes piano); Terpain Richmond (drums, percussion).Audio Mixers: Chris Lord-Alge; Mike Pela.Illustrator: Hieronymus Bosch.Photographer: Yelena Yemchuk.Big, expansive Euro-pop, Australian style. Stylistically, this duo is coming straight out of the '80s with a vengeance. Savage Garden look to Duran Duran and Big Country for influences. Guitars are used for texture, not as instruments of angst or anger. But the Prince-style strings and piano at the end of "To the Moon and Back" show a willingness to experiment within the somewhat narrow confines of their chosen sound. The feel is electronic, but not inhuman. "I Want You" sounds a lot like Roxette (remember Roxette?!!), with its rapid-fire, hip-hoppy vocal affectations, but then "Truly Madly Deeply" comes along, a ballad replete with open-chord guitar sweeps and gospel-inflected keyboards. There's even a nice classical guitar solo at at the end to round things out. If you like modern dance music, but with a semblance of melody and some pleasant instrumental concepts, you just might want to enter this conventionally pretty, not-so-savage garden.

Savage Garden - Savage Garden cd.

I love this cd! It is one of the cds I put in my car when I'm on the raod. The songs entice you to sing along while the music has an infectious beat to it. The combination of the two are great for cruising down a long, empty highway.

My sons introduced me to this group. Savage Garden had actually been on the charts for quite awhile before I heard any of their music. I had decided that with a name like Savage Garden, their music wasn't the kind I normally listened to. Boy, was I wrong! The old adage "You can't judge a book by its cover" was the first thing I thought of when I was listening to this cd for the first time. Their music is good and the way they use the english language in their songs is a delight. They use word combinations that explode in your mind and add an extra layer of enjoyment to their music.

This was the 2nd cd of this album that I bought. I wore out the first one. I have the second album as well. I would recommend this group to everyone.

I have their Affirmation CD and liked it very much, but only stumbled on this one by accident. Heard "To The Moon And Back" on a website I was on and recognized the voice. Researched and found the CD where I previewed other songs and decided it was a good addition to my collection. And now I don't leave home without it! Good CD; Great Music: Wonderful to Own.
