AT THE SCENE OF THE CRIME Edited By Dana Stabenow
Created: 17/12/08
I discovered Dana Stabenow-the-mystery-writer on a job-seeking trip to Alaska in 1991, just in time to catch the beginning of her series featuring protagonist Kate Shugak, now spanning 15 titles. This volume is a compilation of short fiction by lesser-known fiction authors (the pedigreed Matthew V. Clemens, CSI co-plotter, is a notable exception), spanning several sub-types of the genre (the criminal mind, the psychological analysis, the law-and-order investigation), and all tautly-penned. However ingeniously Stabenow has selected, edited, and strung together her colleagues' work, I personally prefer Stabenow's own creations: check out WHISPER TO THE BLOOD, due out February 2009.
