This is one of the greatest games of all time by one of the best gaming companies ever established (before they went under for that Final Fantasy movie). It has an extremely compelling storyline with multiple twists and turns that keep you playing for hours upon hours. It also has one of the most intuitive "spell" setups in any game utilized through alchemy. There are literally over a hundred different alchemy combinations for you to find, collect, and cast throughout the game and each one can be leveled up for maximum destruction.

The game initially takes place in modern day Podunk with you and your dog leaving a movie theater. While your character is reflecting on what they just seen, your dog takes it upon himself to chase a cat into an old abandoned mansion. That leads to the discovery of a time machine which sends you into the space age future. After being discovered by the butler (who then tries to kill you), you are shoved out of the room, down an escape pod, and into a jungle... The story from there winds up in a desert land to a castle back to the space station as you desperately try to find your way home.

I decided to buy this game from eBay for multiple reasons: 1) The game is hard to find on a good day. 2) It was inexpensive. 3) I had already owned a copy of the game before it had gotten flooded and I missed it.

I still wish I didnt lose in in Kentucky...

Created: 15/07/07
I remember Secret of Evermore. One of my eldest brothers had given it to me. I was probably 7 or 8 when he gave it to me. I remember playing that game for hours, and I mean hours on end. I wouldnt eat dinner until I got to a point to where I was mostly shopping for better armor and goods!

The basic idea is pretty good. Its slightly realistic about a dog running into a house and his owner following him, getting him into trouble.

The characters were believable, each story of every major character was amazingly good.

The boss battles were unique and some were pretty difficult (the forsaken chess board got me a lot back then as well as the swamp serpent).

The battle system was to me, revolutionary, because it made use of todays RPGs (Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2, WoW, etc) fighting systems but in a basic format to which was easy to use.

Some of the objectives were pointless but helped in the end.

I love the idea of the different time zones (starting in pre-historic times, to what appears to be a form of Ancient Egypt or Rome, to an ancient form of medieval times, to the future.) And each had a different effect on your dog.

Overall, the game is great, as said in my title, I wish I had not lost it in Kentucky when I was 10. I still have the SNES, but not the game, I may have to get it here lol.

Memory..Skewed or just grew up?

Created: 07/03/07
I remember playing this game once in the past, I think I was about 12 or 13 at the time, and it lived along side Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy III as the best rpgs of the day. I came back to this now, approximately, 10 years later to find that it is not nearly as good as I remember.

The Good points... the battle system is just as kick arse as it once was, same with the graphics.

The not so good... The story line is pretty childish, there isn’t really any main quest you are just sort of floating along completing fetch quests and solving puzzles (market place) and completing mazes (the end of Fire Eye's land) that make you run around in loops as you go. The weapons leave something to be desired as well, the weapons up grade cyclically and you will find yourself only using the newest weapon you have received.

One thing I can say for this game is it is a great conversation piece. Another is the graphic on the cartridge itself is awesome! Over all today it is BLAH. but if you have some good memories with this game pick it up.

I was around level 17 when i stopped playing.

From what I remember, this was an Amazing Game.

About 4 years ago I sold this game, and I regret it so much. The game was quite amazing from what i remember. It had a Great Story, it made me want to keep playing to see what would happen next. The battle system was pretty awesome too, I love the idea of finding ingredients to use alchemy. The gameplay never got boring for me, I loved the puzzles you had to solve. Overall it is just a great game in my opinion. You should give the game a Try if you havent, your missing out on a great Enix game.

Podunk, U.S.A.

Created: 24/10/08
The oft-maligned child of Squaresoft U.S.A., Secret of Evermore was thought by many to be the sequel to Secret of Mana. While this was not the case (Secret of Mana, or rather Seiken Densetsu 2, was followed by a third game that sadly did not come to the U.S.) Secret of Evermore was a good game in its own right. Using a control scheme similar to that of Secret of Mana, the player fought through areas with specific time themes; The Stone Age, ancient Egypt, The Stone age, and finally a futuristic space station. Magic, or rather Alchemy, relies on having the right ingredients to cast a spell, a novel concept for the time. The Dialogue is cheesy, but done so on purpose, owing to the main character's love of movies.

It may not be Seiken Densetsu 3, but Secret of Evermore is a good game that deserves a place in any gamer's library.
