Sesame Street - Learning About Numbers (DVD, 2004)

I can't tell you exactly how they do it, but this DVD and Learning About Numbers put all 4 of my children ahead of their peers in learning the fundamentals. The music tunes encourage repetition, and they are excellent attention getters. The Count is a hoot! He is really funny without trying to be, which keeps parents interested. I highly recommend these videos from Old School Sesame Street!

Excellent intro to numbers for infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers. Sesame Street at its best! Features Big Bird as the host, and many of the old school video clips about each number. The Count is of course in the DVD, as well as Grover and other classic muppets.

What I love about this DVD is the fact that it shows all the numbers clips from the glory days of Sesame Street, when it was one of the only educational programs on television. I grew up watching 'the Street in the 70s, and many of the clips in this DVD date back to that time. Remember the 1-2-3-4-5 pinball and the "two little girls in the little dollhouse"? They're all here, along with the girl with nine eyes who "doesn't like shoppin' 'cause she doesn't like hoppin'".

My son likes to watch the video, but it's not one he wants to see very often. I throw it in the mix every now and then to liven things up, but he prefers Elmo. Rats.

My husband and I both grew up during the Sesame Street era (we're 30ish now), so we were happy to find this DVD with our old pal the Count. Our two-year-old is OBSESSED with it! He can already count to ten and enjoys throwing the phrase "ah ah ah" into conversation...just sort of randomly :-> We actually had to buy a second copy after the first one was destroyed in an "over-hugging" incident. Apparently, it is possible to be loved too much by a toddler!

My kids LOVE this and they are learning while watching it. There are catchy songs to help them learn that even I find entertaining! The exact songs I remember when I was a child and watching sesame street. Good, classic, sesame street!
