One of Brad Pitt's best

Created: 11/12/09
This is an awesome movie in which Brad Pitt played Heinrich Harrer, a Nazi mountain climber who is commissioned by Hitler himself to plant the Swastika on the peak of Mt. Everest only to go through a series of turns of fortune and events that eventually lead him to Tibet and meets as well as befriends the Dalai Lama.Heinrich eventually becomes the teacher and tutor to the young Dalai Lama until the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1950.

Heinrich returns to his native Austria to be reunited with his estranged son.The film ends with Heinrich and his son reaching the peak on Mt.Everest thus completing his original mission but Heinrich plants the Tibetan flag.It was a very well made movie that was sadly underrated in spite of the fact that Brad Pitt starred in it.However, the movie did contribute to worldwide awareness of Tibet's plight as an occupied and oppressed nation and people.

I only wish that similar publicity could be made for East Turkestan which is another occupied and oppressed country in Western China as well.

Time for Respect

This is a breathtakingly beautiful story of two souls who find one another under the most hostile situation. An extraordinary adventure based on the true story of an Austrian prisoner of war who is befriended by Tibet's Dalai Lama on the eve of the communist invasion. For a brief moment in time, they know true friendship, despite the age and cultural differences. Still, the hope for peace and happiness for every human burns in some hearts like a flame for the rest of the world to see. Finding a reason to live in a difficult situation and not running from your responsibilities to friends, family and country is also emphasized.

A Beautifully Done Story..Based On A True Story...

Created: 01/07/09
I had forgotten just how serious this movie is. This is a movie for all time & during my parents time. The scenery is breathtaking & surreal. It is a movie about change. Change for the world & for especially for one young & highly ambitious Austrian as played by Brad Pitt during World War II when Germany was striving to take over the world. Even though Tibet remains today in turmoil with Chinese rule, there is still a sense that one day, it will return back to the religion is is founded upon. I bought this movie to keep and keep it, I shall.

Amazing true story of Austrian Nazi & young Dalai Lama.

Created: 23/02/08
This is the story of a selfish young Austrian who, through quirk of circumstance, becomes close friends with the young Dalai Lama during World WarII and the communist takeover of the early 50's. The impact of the youth on Heinrich Harrar, is not only a fascinating story but gives hope to the future of humanity. Western religions could learn a lot from the ways of Buddhism.

I bought it because I'd already seen it and decided I wanted to have it for keeps.
