Ironically, the album's biggest hit, which would become one of the group's signature songs, was the uncharacteristically uptempo "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band." Elsewhere, appearances are equally deceiving; interpersonal tensions had developed in the band to the point where there wouldn't be another Moody Blues album for six years, but the album is full of slow, romantic musings, not signs of strife. As usual, it's Justin Hayward, he of the silky voice and heart-on-a-sleeve lyricism, who excels at all this romantic balladry, his contributions being the most melodic and affecting. John Lodge's aforementioned "I'm Just a Singer" is far and away the most energetic tune, but it closes the album and doesn't disturb the contemplative mood. Ironically, though the band was coming apart, they were also reaching new heights. Keyboardist Mike Pinder had traded in his Mellotron for its more sophisticated cousin, the Chamberlain, which provided an improved overall sound on SEVENTH SOJOURN.

Editorial Reviews
...their most satisfying music is also their most tactile, with a variety of rich and flowing textures....SEVENTH SOJOURN is music to bask in and feel with your pores as well as your ears...

an end of an era

Created: 15/08/06
i know what your thinking.an era?this was only seven albums and six years for the moody blues mark two.but in rock n roll six years is a lifetime and for all of you rock historians i am sure you would agree that this band had done more in those six years than most people do in a life time.i think most people are familer with this album . even now almost thirty-five years later you can still hear fans and the band talk about it.my self personally i have heard john lodge talk of the canterbury tales, and justin hayward speak of the sadness and how hard it was to make, many times over the years.each album the moodies released back then was better than the last one.a momentum developed with each album reaching new heights.seventh sojourn was the crest of wave.when i first heard it i was totally amazed! it was fresh to the point that they had created an whole new atmosphere different from all the other albums.still there was no mistaking who was playing this masterpiece.for me all of their first seven have to be listned to from start to finish.every song fits just so,the whole is whats most important, not the pieces.but i am aware of singles and hits.you want them you got them.the last song on seventh sojourn "im just a singer (in a rock and roll band).is a mega hit and a statement on how the band really perceived themselfs.other songs released as singles were "isnt life strange","for my lady"."lost in a lost world"also received a lot of radio play.now all of these years later the sound of "seventh sojourn" is more unique than ever.standing out as one of their greatest achievements.

Moody Blues Seventh Sojourn

In my opinion this is one of the BEST recording produced by the Moodies. My favorite song is "You and Me." It is like a morning prayer. When you listen to the words you will see that they are talking about Jesus on the cross, in Israel....where it all began, as the song says.

Hard to find in stores.Classic album by classic group.

Quite difficult to find in local stores, especially at the eBay price. Always on the lookout for deals on CD's of the music I grew up with that were originally only available on vinyl.
