Movie synopsis

The silver-screen version of SEX AND THE CITY is sure to inspire lust, though it may not be after its sexy male cast. Instead, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her friends wear enviable fashions from the industry's biggest names such as Zac Posen, Louis Vuitton, and, of course, Manolo Blahnik, and their gorgeous clothes--and accessories--threaten to steal the show. But for fans of the series' wit, drama, and sex, there's plenty to like in this romantic comedy filled with familiar characters. Though four years have passed since the events of the series, not much has changed as the film begins: Carrie and Mr. Big (Chris Noth) are happy as they search for an apartment, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) is blissful with her husband (Evan Handler) and adopted daughter, Samantha (Kim Cattrall) is still with actor Smith Jerrod (Jason Lewis), and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) is trying to balance life as a mother, wife, and lawyer as she lives in Brooklyn with Steve (David Eigenberg). But Carrie and Big's apartment hunt leads them down the road to marriage, and the destination may not be quite everything Carrie hoped for. Though the film runs nearly two and a half hours, it flies by the way a marathon of episodes would for the devoted. Even minor characters from the show--Vogue editor Enid Frick (Candice Bergen), beloved Carrie pal Stanford Blatch (Willie Garson), and hyper wedding planner Anthony Marentino (Mario Canton)--make fan-pleasing appearances. SEX AND THE CITY is full of glitz, glamour, and giggles, but be sure to have a tissue nearby. These characters have become like friends to fans, and it's tough not to tear up when things don't go exactly as they'd hoped.

Movie trailer and editorial reviews

3 stars out of 4 -- "It's an unabashed guilty pleasure that goes down as smoothly as a chilled cosmo."
USA Today - Claudia Puig (05/30/2008)

"For a film that delights in indulging in frivolity at every possible turn, it examines subjects that most movies don't dare graze for their terrifying seriousness. And when it does, the movie handles them with surprising grace, wit and maturity."
Los Angeles Times - Carina Chocano (05/30/2008)

"SEX AND THE CITY has always been about the bond among women. At its best, the movie shows why that bond sticks."
Rolling Stone - Peter Travers (06/12/2008)

"THE MOVIE replicates everything that's great about the TV show, in particular its breathless flitting between relationship realities and romantic wish-fulfillment."
Empire - William Thomas (07/01/2008)

"It gives you everything you ever loved about the series, and blows it out into super-size cinematic proportions. The drama is more dramatic, the stakes are higher, and the relationships more intense."
Premiere - Emily Rems (06/03/2008)

Sex & The City - The Movie - ENJOYED THE SUPRISES!!

Created: 04/10/08
Sex & The City - The Movie - ENJOYED THE SUPRISES!! The movie stayed true to the series, which I also loved... I enjoyed seeing them older and a little more mature, but still had the no holds barred sex talk that we all know and love, for example, I will never look at crayons and coloring the same again! The fashion did not dissappoint either...the girls were all beautiful. I was also very happy with all characters being played by the original actors, that is the way it should be and I also enjoyed the addition of a couple of new ones. The beginning of the movie is great for anyone who has not seen the series...it completely catches you up, so if watching it with hubby/boyfriend/girlfriend that has not seen the series, they will not be lost, so good move on the producer and directors part to add that in the beginning. I both laughed and cried in this movie, it was great to see some "old friends" and to see what they were up to...Sarah Jessica Parker is very good at at both comedy and drama and so are the rest of the actors, so it is a well made movie.. It is really in a class of it's own! So, if you loved the series, see the movie, and if you haven't seen the series, don't be afraid that you will be lost, and remember...the whole series is already waiting for you on DVD! Thanks for reading this review and make sure to mark that it was helpful - Have a great day!

Left me wanting more SATC!!!

Created: 05/10/08
I saw this movie in the theater, so I ordered the DVD after the fact for my hen's night w/3 of my BFFs to watch while we're in NYC. Anyway, while I LOVED the film, unless you watched the entire HBO six seasons or reruns prior to seeing the movie, it could be difficult to understand where some of the scenes came from w/o knowing the backdrop (my fiance, my own personal "Mr. Big", had this problem). So while it was entertaining for us diehard fans, I can see where someone who never watched the series or only saw a few episodes, wouldn't get or appreciate all the references to the past. But after all, the movie was for us diehard SATC fans, wasn't it? In that regard, I LOVED IT! Loved the fashion, loved the characters, loved the drama, everything. I only wish they had included Stanford in more scenes, since he was one of Carrie's closest friends in the series. I also loved counting the fashion items (shoes, purses, etc.) that I already have or wanted to get! :-) I can't wait for the SATC Movie #2!!!

What all of the fans want to know about Sex & the City

Created: 22/12/09
Sex & the City the movie is one of my favorite movies. I have all of the series and was sadden when the characters decided to make seaso six their final one. When I heard about the movie I was so elated because I had alot of unanswered questions about everything. For instance what's next for Carrie and Big, will Charlotte every have children, will Samantha stick in there with Smith instead of going back to her old ways, and how Miranda's coping with her new life with Steve and Brady living Brooklyn and having his mom stay there also. Alot of my questions were answered with this movie but I'm also itching to see whats in store for the seqeusl of the movie that premieres next spring!!!!!

Minus At Least 1 Star If You Are Male

Created: 03/11/08
First, and probably most important to SATC fans, this movie is very true to the TV series. All of the characters return including 4 girls, their guys and their gay sidekick. Certainly all of the Manhattan glitz, the restaurants, the clubs and the sights are on full display. And, of course, there are the clothes, the jewelry and the handbags; tons and tons of fashion and glitz. But this movie is long, long, long -- More than 2-1/2 hours worth! And underlying it all, at least for a guy not necessarily taking this all as farce, is the utterly privileged, fantasy life these women live. While the series and the movie pay lipservice to these women's "careers", they really never work. This is totally summed up when they take a spontaneous honeymoon trip to Mexico for 2 weeks to take care of jilted Carrie. I do want to know who provides Carrie's cell phone service as she has no problem making calls from Mexico.... Of course, all ends as it "should", independent women, albeit chained to men, all! A tribute to the original series which was witty, clever and original. It was often inspirational, for both men and women. But this movie is really a cartoon!

Loved it !!

What can I say ? There's nothing better than old pals picking up right where they left off !! Thanks true friendship. You didn't need to be a comsumed fan to be able to pick up the story line. I first saw it in the theater and went in expecting to find some characters having 'passed over'....I was sooo wrong....what a great surprise. There are some really great moments and some definite 'tissue' moments. Watched it 2 times again and picked up some moments that I missed the first time. The movie leaves plenty of room for another sequel....afterall we need to find out about Charlotte's baby and if Carrie and Big really DO get it together....and of course Samantha's cancer crisis.
LOVE IT !!
Lois
