The Crowes' debut was a straightforward rock & roll album named for an Elmore James song and recorded by a band fronted by an impossibly skinny lead singer and a pair of riff-happy guitarists. Sure, songs such as "Sister Luck," "Twice As Hard" and "Jealous Again" may have struck a little close to the sound the Rolling Stones and Faces were trading in during the early '70s, but there was nothing contrived about the Black Crowes' music. Despite being in their early 20's at the time, brothers Chris and Rich Robinson showed a knack for writing about soul-searching ("Seeing Things") and tragic characters ("She Talks To Angels") when they weren't busy tearing up the joint ("Thick N'Thin"). These sons of the south even turned a new generation on to fellow Georgian Otis Redding when they covered his "Hard To Handle." This album not only kicked off a controversial career but helped put Rick Rubin's fledgling label on the map.

    Shake your Money Maker-Black Crowes

    Created: 03/12/07
Shake your money maker by The Black Crowes was there first album by the band. It has some of the bands best songs like “She Talks To Angles”, “Twice as hard”, and “Hard To Handle”. But it still has its week points because not all of the songs will impress a lot of people.
But you probably wont remember this album for its so-so songs but the other great songs that you really enjoyed.
This is one of the better albums of the 90’s, and a must have for a Black Crowes fan. If you like this album you will probably like the Black Crowes album “The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion”.
But if you are not that big of a Black Crowes fan and you just want all there good songs in one place I would recommend “Greatest Hits 1990-1999”.

Track list: Shake your money maker

    2. Jealous Again
    3. Sister Luck

    5. Seeing Things
    6. Hard To Handle
    7. Thick N' Thin
    8. She Talks To Angels

    Flying High !

    Created: 30/01/10
Great Stonesey Rock with 60's-70's R&B/Soul/Rock'n'roll influences.

Several classic songs, including the exquisite 'She Talks To Angels', anchor a fine album. No, it's not perfect, but the overall impression is one of greatness.

I've been listening to some of these songs for almost twenty years; and they never get old. I love hearing 'Twice As Hard', 'Jealous Again', or 'She Talks To Angels' come on the radio. Substitute a good Crowes cover of a classic Chicago Blues tune for their cover of (the rather pedestrian song) 'Hard To Handle', and this CD could be even better; but we're fortunate to have something this good.

On this recording at least, The Crowes are up flying up there with early Rod Stewart, The Faces, and The Rolling Stones; and I'll go so far as to say SHAKE YOUR MONEYMAKER tops any of the Faces or Stewart individual LPs.

Easily worth the small price you will pay to get a copy on ebay !

Black Crowes - Shake Your Money Maker

    Created: 18/02/09
I already owned one Black Crowes album (Southern Harmony) and it is good, but I don't beleive it comes close to Shake Your Money Maker. With songs like Hard To Handle, Twice As Hard and She Talks to Angels (which I'm sure everyone has herd on the radio, or at least one of the three) on the track listings, not much could.

For anyone into 90's rock, or Blues Rock, or Rock period, this album must be in your collection.

    Great classic CD

    Created: 02/04/08
I bought this Black Crowes-Shake Your Money Maker CD because I had it several years ago in a cassette form and loved almost every song on it. I have since lost the cassette and wanted to buy the modern CD version of it. This CD has many awesome songs on it. Just a few are: Twice As Hard, She Talks to Angels, Sister Love, Hard to Handle, etc. It has fast and slow songs both. If you enjoy great rock 'n roll you will love this CD! I would recommend it to any rock 'n roll fan!

    Solid southern rock.

Can't give this one a 5 star, as too few songs are excellent, but there's not a single dud, which is rare, and their best cuts, "Hard to Handle" and "She Talks to Angels" are found here. If you like southern rock this is well worth owning, as good CDs from that genre are at a premium in today's market.
