Shakes the Clown
Created: 11/11/07
It's been said this movie is "The 'Citizen Kane' of alcoholic clown movies." That hits it right on the head (though we can't think of any others in that particular category at the moment). It is hilarious and will keep your attention every second. Don't be put off by the opening scene, which is admittedly just a tad gross. There are many classic moments we still find ourselves quoting with glee years after seeing the movie for the first time: watch for Bobcat saying "Had enough?" from a horizontal position on the asphalt outside of the rodeo clown bar. And who can say honestly we've never felt the urge to punch a mime?
If you're offended by off-color humor, profanity, or satire, then go get a Disney flick, but if you want some really funny adult entertainment, Shakes is your man.

I like to Drink and people are always telling me to go to AA and get a life if Shakes can quit so can I, Academy Caliber performance from Bobcat who also wrote and directed this masterpiece, Look for Robin Williams in one of his most self revealing and challenging roles ever achieved, As a mime instuctor, Bringing me to the best part of this film, Where the clowns commit hate crimes against the mimes it is truly a satire of the sad plight of mankind concerning prejudice and social intolerance. I wish Bob Goldthwait was still alive to see how a critical failure upon release, Has so endeared itself to so many veiwers and is finally achieving the recognition it should have obtained upon release. Time will be the final judge of Bobcats Genius.

Fear and loathing in Palookaville

This is the Holy Grail of demented clown movies. I believe that it will one day inspire a subculture of disgusting drunken vomitous clowns that will terrorize parent and child alike. No circus, no rodeo, nor any birthday party will be safe from these foul mouthed, horrible harlequins. Now available on DVD after so long out of print, this film is hilarious and should come with a fifth of liquor and a barf bag. Parents should make their children watch this to learn why they should never trust a clown. The amazing all star cast is able to humorously reflect the dementia of clowndome. This film is not for mimes.

Funny movie. Definitely dated, but worth watching if you like comedy. Many familiar faces and there isnt much more entertaining than watching a movie about an alcoholic clown.

Bobcat, Julie Brown and Kathy Griffith all got credit but Robin Williams as the Mime teacher got no mention. Hilarious!
