Shakespeare as oracle book & cards box set.
Created: 12/02/08
The concept is brilliant -- let the bard's words guide your predictions -- it's the execution that lets it down somewhat. The cards are unnecessarily oversize & very thick; this makes them hard to handle & easy to drop. The artwork tries to be in keeping with the woodcuts of the Shakesperian era but sometimes comes across as amateurish. The book is clever but tricky to follow; the cards are designed around characters from different plays and use key quotes. You would either have to be an expert on Shakespeare or constantly refer to the book to understand the context. The box is lovely but incredibly heavy. I don't know if it is made of wood or designed to look like it, but that look carries over to the book & cards themselves.

The Shakespeare Oracle by Anita Llewellyn (2003)

This is a heavy large set of cards with a 176 page instruction book. It comes in a nice storage box that opens like a book. The cards are larger than most tarot decks and made of thick cardboard with a rustic antique look. The meaning on the cards are related to Shakespeare’s plays. A lovely gift for an actor or Shakespeare student. Definitely and unusual set.
