Shark Tale (DVD, 2005, Widescreen)

Vicky Jenson, Bibo Bergeron|Theatrical release: 2004 | Rating: PG (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

Will Smith brings hip-hop zest to the voice of Oscar, a fast-talking everyfish who rejects his life at the whale wash and longs for fortune and fame in this animated film from Dreamworks. A combination of FINDING NEMO and GOODFELLAS, here sharks are old-school gangsters who prey on the local citizenry and hang out in the wreck of the Titanic. Martin Scorsese does the voice of Mr. Sykes, Oscar's blowfish boss, who owes head Shark Don Lino (Robert De Niro) a lot of clams. Don Lino wants to turn over his reign to his two sons, but youngest Lenny (Jack Black) is a closet vegetarian. The plot thickens when Oscar takes credit for the accidental death of Lenny's brother, and suddenly finds the fame and fortune he's been seeking, only it's based on the lie that he's "the shark slayer." It's tough not to like this spunky fish story, especially with Scorsese and De Niro verbally one-upping each other in some hilarious bits. Also noteworthy: a pair of hilariously mellow Rastafarian jellyfish (Ziggy Marley and Doug E. Doug) and Peter Falk as an old Tiger Shark who hangs around the Titanic crooning "My Heart Will Go On." Renee Zellweger and Angelina Jolie are the females--one pure of heart, one a "fish fatale"-- battling over Oscar's affection. In addition to all that, there should be enough goofy humor, action, and goofing to keep the kids riveted.

Oscar is a scrubber at the whale wash, but dreams of becomming someone & wants to be on the top of the reef where the somebodys all live. When his boss tells him he has one day to pay him back his IOU's he turns to Angie a receptionist at the car wash to help him.Little does he know that Angie has a secret crush on him! She gives him a rare pink pearl to sell to be able to pay back his boss. When he goes to meet his boss at a seahorse race he gets a hunch from someone talking about a seahorse that is suppost to win & bets all his clams on it, just when it looks like the seahorse is going to win, it looses.Oscar is sent into exile by his boss by the jamican jellyfish who in the middle of the ocean are about to sting him, when the 2 sharks(Frankie & Lenny) of one of scarriest sharks ever (Don Lino) come upon them. But when a anchor kills Frankie the shark, Oscar tells a white lie and says he defeated the shark,& beocomes the town hero as shark-slayer & all the attention gets him on top of the reef his biggest dream.he starts to have new friends and a gold digger named Lola who is after his money & fame. When his lie starts to unravel he realizes that his one true friend Angie liked him even when he wasn't famous. Good moral to this story! has Katie Current a ocean tv reporter, crab trains, seahorse races, taxi fish, this movie is full of fun!

Shark Tale DVD

While this movie is not the best I have seen, I do find it enjoyable.

I bought it because I like Bob Marley and parts of a few of his songs are used, sung by pseudo-Rastafarian characters. I share it with friends because we enjoy the pop culture references and the shark who may as well be gay, with all the discrimination issues he faces.

It deals with themes of acceptance, fitting in, and honesty and would be appropriate for older children (some of the humor is a bit off color).

This video is good for children and adults. You'll get a laugh as the open a Whale Wash! Awesome graphics. Will Smith is his usual funny self as the fish who can't seem to keep out of trouble. A gangster film with a twist of sea food!

LOVED IT

this movie was soooooooo fun to watch, with lots of humor!!!!!!!!!!! i DO NOT recommend it for younger children, although its a cartoon, its more of an adult cartoon and i dont think parents will appreciate their younger children watching some of the situations, i think they attempted to make them simple by using animals and changing the situation a bit so an adult find it funny for one reason and a kid just another.... ill give you one of the situations and let you be the judge (im also not sure how its rated but in my opinion a PG13 might be suiting) a shark who is a "vegatarian" cross dresses himself as a dolphin as a way of dealing with his vegatarian identity crisis (this is very much a less offensive way of making him a homosexual) ..... the movie is colorful, fast and has lots of GREAT voices with great acting!!!!! .....
anyways, i bought the movie so i can watch it again and again
