Filter's crunchy debut

Created: 07/05/07
So it's been over 10 years since Filter released their debut album, Short Bus. Of course, some people only know the album for the smash radio hit "Hey Man Nice Shot", but there is much more to be found here. After that, "Dose" keeps up the fast paced wall of guitars and screaming vocals. "Under" takes a more industrial, Nine Inch Nails approach(Filter frontman Richard Patrick was the touring guitarist for them back in '91, so it's obvious where this influence came from), with plenty of distorted vocals and a catchy bassline. "Spent" and "Take Another" keep the heavy, hard-hitting pacing moving along, but "Stuck In Here" throws the listener a curve ball with it's acoustic guitars and mellow vocals. "It's Over", dedicated to NIN bandmate Jeff Ward, is one of the standouts on the album, it's a very atmospheric, Soundgarden-esque mid-paced rocker. "Gerbil" is also another great track, a short but sweet tune with some more heavy distorted guitars and some more great delay and other effects. "White Like That" slows things down a bit with it's defensive lyrics, it's a good longer track but softer than the others. "Consider This" is an atmospheric, heavy sounding song, and slower paced, with some great lyrics and guitar effects, definitely one of the better songs on the album. The other mellow, acoustic song, "So Cool" wraps things up in a great fashion. I've heard complaints that the album doesn't have much variety, and maybe it doesn't, but what's there still sounds fresh on each listen. If you're looking for a heavy, energetic, in-your-face industrial/alternative rock album, Short Bus is a great choice.

Filter's Shortbus is a CD packed with hits that long time Filter fans, or fans of this genre of music in general, will enjoy and replay for hours on end. Whether it be one song or the whole CD, this is a great showing of the overall talent that is in Filter. Features hit song "Hey Man Nice Shot" among others.

Awesome, if you like Filter

Ultimate white noise! Probably their best CD to date. Raw sound with great guitars. I don't like every song, but it was still worth it.
