Sequel Beats the Original!
Created: 21/08/09
I don't know how rottentomatoes.com collective reviews give Short Circuit a higher rating than its sequel. I truly believe this is one sequel that is better than the original!
Fisher Stevens was highly enjoyable as Ben Jahveri. An West Asian technological genius that computes his robot buddy Johnny 5. This movie has a good balance of comedy, concern, & romance. Sometimes weaved together in the same scene.
This is one of those movies where you don't have to know about the first part to enjoy the film. The storyline is not carved out of the original, with the exception of evolving Johnny 5's character. In the first movie, Johnny 5 couldn't speak English, or interact with his surrounding, well. This time around Johnny 5 is the whimsical counterpart to his human superior.. or is it the other way around?
All in all, a fun & friendly 80s comedy. 3.75 stars out of 5.

This is a great sequel of the first one. It's great how the writers took the story of Ben (Fisher Stevens), them not having Guttenberg for this second movie. Great way to introduce Number Five, or Johnny Five, to the city! Fun, entertaining with also a very touching message. A little bit of romantic comedy also.
What I like the most of the DVD is the features. Although it had only like a 15-minute footage of some interviews shot on location during the making of, it had more options than the DVD for the first movie, subtitles (in several languages, even in chinese!) and also the audio! In Spanish and even Portuguese! Never seen that before in other DVD!
The opening and closing tune for this sequel is very catchy! Very nice; I love it!

Short Circuit 2

Wonderful, nostaligic, feel good film. Recommended for all ages~~but find and watch 'Short Circuit' first. This is the sequel. I have seen 'Short Circuit' in the Wal*Mart bargain DVD bin quite often, but never 'Short Circuit 2', so I had to go wandering through the internet to find the sequel and complete our family set.
I have introduced my grandson to these movies and they are already part of his 'see it again' movies. It is such a cute film, I don't care how often he watches it, it never bothers me.
Quick plot summary~~reformed robot goes out into the big, bad world alone as an innocent. Good always triumphs over evil with many hilarious situations as the robot takes every word literally!

Classic 80's fun

What can you say about Short Circuit 2? Though at times a little bit darker than the original, the true fun and excitement of the first movie does shine through. It is always a joy to watch Johnny 5 as he learns about the world and people around him.
The movie can feel a little dated at times, mainly by the clothing styles and slang, but it stands up pretty well considering it's been 20 years since the movie was produced.
With the recent release of the movie Wall-e, kids are itching for a cute robot to entertain them. So introduce your kids and re-introduce yourself to this family classic.

Still Funny

I have not seen this movie in years, I believe I last saw it before I reached double digits in age. However the movie is still comical. The movie is basically the perspective of a person who is new to the world and doesn't know what anything does. Johnny 5 is a robot who was zapped by lightning in the first movie and the "bad people" lost control of him. Johnny's non-knowledge creates comical phrases and makes his life an adventure. However do to his robotic side he is able to learn very fast and do some really cool stuff with ordinary objects. This movie is great for all ages. As I said I watched this when I was little and loved it. SIDE NOTE: The first Short Circuit is better.
