Movie synopsis

When a laser-armed Department of Defense robot named Number 5 gets zapped by a lightning bolt, he "malfunctions" and starts spouting peace slogans and developing a human-like consciousness. Naturally, the newly pacifist machine wants out of the military and escapes. As a frantic search for the creature begins, Number 5 settles down in his new home, with a gentle young woman named Stephanie (Ally Sheedy), who has every intention of holding on to her find, teaching Number 5 about popular culture and other mysteries of life. Thoroughly convinced that the robot is alive, she develops a strong bond with the creature. In order to prevent his capture by the military--who view Number 5 as an armed-and-dangerous weapon--the pair must convince his inventor, a reclusive scientist named Newton Crosby (Steve Guttenberg), that he is truly alive and more than just a metal machine. The highly innovative robot created for director John Badham's film brings to mind other lovable science fiction icons such as E.T. and R2D2 from STAR WARS.

Wall-E has a great-great-grandson! Didn't you know?

Created: 29/11/08
This flick is a classic. If you've seen the 2008 release of Pixar's WALL-E, you can see where they got the idea for his design.

A very nice representation of a smooth written story where robots and humans intermix. Nova Robotics has made 5 prototype robots for a non-human war effort device. While at an outside charging station, lightning hits the #5 robot, which results in the creation of an uncanny artificial intelligence for it (hence the movie title).

Filled with rip-roaring scenarios and a hilarious vocabulary... SHORT CIRCUIT is a must-see for all age groups!

If you've never seen this classic, go out and get it. You won't be sorry. Also there is a sequel, Short Circuit 2. It picks up a short time later as #5 continues his antics by helping one of his scientist creators.

Don't miss either one, as they are sure to put a lasting smile on your face.

This is a cute and charming tale about "Johnny five" and his beginning from an ordinary Nova Robotic experiment to becoming a sentient lifeform by a bolt of lightning.

A must have for any DVD collection.

I would recommend it to everyone. The DVD is a good clean, well preserved, fresh copy of the original VHS. I remember enjoying watching it when I was a kid and now my kids enjoy watching it. They love the way they can relate with a robot coming to life and interacting on its own, learning from the beginning like kids do, and discovering things for the first time just like them. No mater how much misjif they get into things always work out in the end.

Classic 80's robots-movie

Created: 26/09/08
"Short Circuit" is a great movie with a great cast (both Guttenberg and G.W.Bailey from Police Academy). There's some good laughs and nice storyline. Overall, is a fun movie to watch.
About the DVD, the things I didn't like were the features on the disc. It didn't bring the feature of subtitles, not even in English for the impaired. And also I wish I had some special features like any "Making of" or "Behind the scenes".

GREAT MOVIE

Created: 02/06/08
My 11 yr old grandson saw this movie for the first time about 4 months ago. We looked in the local stores and could not find it,so bright idea!!check e-bay (da)!. Anyway, there it was,he loves the movie part one & part 2,so we got both.It is a GREAT movie for kids, they just don't make'em like this anymore. He will watch it over and over and laugh just as much every time, even my younger grandkids cheer for Number 5.So, when They ask for a movie, I will check e-bay first before I start running around to all the local stores.
Thank you so much.
