Album Notes
Black Label Society: Zakk Wylde (vocals, guitar, piano, bass guitar); Nick "ET" Catanese (guitar); John "J.D." DeServio (bass guitar); Craig Nunemacher (drums).SHOT TO HELL is the eighth record by Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society and their first for Roadrunner records. Most famous for stepping into Randy Rhoad's prematurely empty shoes and keeping Ozzy Osbourne commercially viable into the mid 1990s, Zakk Wylde has definitely earned a place in the upper echelon of metal axemen.Whereas the songs on SHOT TO HELL do not immediately strike the listener like some of Osbourne's finer moments (although "Black Mass Reverends" does recall Black Sabbath's "War Pigs") and Wylde's singing sometimes apes more articulate frontmen like Axl Rose and Layne Staley (particularly on the opener "Concrete Jungle"), the album soars on the strength of Wylde's ever-dizzying leads. Of course, any Wylde fan will find that alone worth the price of admission.

Editorial Reviews
SHOT TO HELL has a warmth and depth to its tones and textures that greatly enhances the dramatic impact...
Kerrang

[Wylde] knows what fans want and delivers it in spades: Sabbathy riffs, Southern twang, heartfelt ballads, histrionic solos...and anthemic lyrics.

Concrete Solid

Created: 12/09/06
Zakk does it again, another amazing Black Label Society album! The first single Concrete Jungle has an amazing video to go along with it. Not much has changed with the BLS formula with this release. I think Zakk's vocals are improving over the years, which is a good thing. I highly recommend checking this album out.

Incredible~

Zakk is my guitar hero! I'm a 41 year old woman and I don't play any instruments. This Cd continues the BLS tradition of brilliant sound and consistent talent, something hard to find in today's one-hit-wonder bands. I will buy anything he puts out because I know I'm not wasting my money. Looking forward to seeing him live in April when he comes around on tour. To think, the guy was working at a gas station in Jersey when he was discovered and now he's pumping the best sound out there and is one of the hardest working musicians I can think of. You won't be disappointed by this or any other CD from Black Label Society. Who needs Ozzy?

Bleed BLS!!!

Created: 06/12/06
I personally think Zakk is the greatest guitarist alive today, and he always has guys backing him up who do their job well, so the music here is not the issue. If you love BLS, you'll love this album, because it's not very different from their other releases. That's where my only problem with this (& others) comes into play- the lyrics, the riffs, even some of the solos, seem recycled for the umpteenth time. Great CD, but don't expect anything ground-breaking from the world's current #1.
