    Movie synopsis

Musical remake of the 1939 classic film NINOTCHKA. An alluring, but aloof, female Communist (Cyd Charisse) visits Paris on an assignment to evaluate three Russian officials. But when she meets a charming U.S. filmmaker (Fred Astaire) there, her perspective on the world changes -- and the chilly bureaucrat soon finds herself melting in his arms. And it's not long before she's enjoying such decadent western pleasures as jazz, makeup, and silk stockings. The classic Cole Porter songs include "Too Bad", "Paris Loves Lovers", "Silk Stockings", and "Fated to be Mated".

Fred Astaire, Cyd Charisse and Cole Porter!

    Created: 21/03/10
One of the last big budget Fred Astaire musicals, it is a takeoff on the classic film "Ninotchka." It spoofs Communist Russian philosophy and its downfall as a result of exposure to love and Paris. Cyd Charisse plays the hardline party member who succumbs to the charms of movie producer Fred Astaire. The beautiful music and witty lyrics of Cole Porter, and the gorgeous dancing of the two leads make this a worthwhile movie experience. Enjoy!!!!

The glory days of the MGM Musical experienced!

    Created: 28/12/10
Well, it's been said that any film with Fred Astaire in it is better than about any other one
without him, is driven home by his performance with Cyd Charisse in this great musical.
The MGM musicals were a showcase for both Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse which were
unequaled by other projects which they did before and later. Reputedly this was Cyd's
favorite film from her movie career and while it's probably not Fred's best dancing film,
the ensemble effect is a most pleasing musical film experience and showcases the great
resources of MGM at the height of the studio's powers. It's an extremely amusing story
from the Cold War days when Russian envoys were stereotyped, as Cyd is in the musical,
as hard-line dogma-driven characters. Played against the carefree character of Fred as
an American movie producer working in Paris, the setting for some fun and character
conflicts, resolved through romance, is staged. Everything is resolved through beautiful
music and dance in one of the most memorable and enjoyable musicals ever to come
out of that Hollywood dream factory, MGM. It's great!
