Album Notes
Nickelback: Chad Kroeger, Ryan Peake (vocals, guitar); Mike Kroeger (bass); Ryan "Nik" Vikedal (drums).Additional personnel: Ian Thornley (slide guitar).Recorded at Greenhouse Studios, Burnaby, British Colombia, Canada."How You Remind Me" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Record Of The Year.Personnel: Ryan Peake, Chad Kroeger (vocals, guitar); Ian Thornley (slide guitar); Ryan Vikedal (drums).Audio Mixer: Randy Staub .Recording information: Greenhouse Studios, Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada.Photographer: Daniel Moss.Nickelback are arguably the preeminent bastard children of '90s hard rock. On the Canadian band's sophomore effort, the songs will surely appeal to heavy rockers who were introduced to Metallica as shorthaired rock heroes. Simple, crunchy chord progressions (that insinuate themselves quickly into one's memory) are matched by emotionally charged lyrics on SILVER SIDE UP."Never Again" is a chilling description of domestic abuse from the victim's point of view. The radio-bound track "How You Remind Me" puts a cynical new spin on typical motifs usually reserved for 80's pop-metal balladeers. "Money Bought" addresses sexual exploitation while "Just For" shows how the darker side of love can inspire vengeance. On the whole, SILVER SIDE UP is a promising follow-up to THE STATE, closing with the token acoustic-meets-electric track "Good Times Gone."

Editorial Reviews
3 out of 5 stars - ...What sets them apart from many of their contemporaries...is the genuine anger and strong hooks that light up their dark tales of domestic abuse, parental desertion and revenge...

Nickelback Rocks

Created: 12/10/05
"How You Remind Me" and "Never Again" are a couple of the hits from this amazing CD. This is the album which actually introduced the world to Nickelback. However, if you are just a casual radio listener and only know those two songs, there is much more in store for you with the purchase of this CD. I think it is a very good album and has a great balance of hard rock songs and softer, slower ballads. Chad Kroeger is developing his voice on his album and it is reflected in the excellent melding of his deep voice and the guitar strumming. The quality of the songwriting (lyrically) is much, much better than the writing on "Curb" and Nickelback distinguishes themselves as a unique entity.

Silver Side Up - Nickelback (CD 2001)

I love this group, I am a country girl at heart, but there are some rock bands that I can't ignore.... Nickelback is one of them. There is not a bad song on this CD. rated it E for Excellent. The language is not for young people, but it helps set the tone of the message of the song in many cases. I have several Nickelback albums, and I love them all, but Silver Side Up is my favorite. Talent beyond belief.... the vocals, the instruments, the songs picked for this album... all mesh together to produce a fantastic experience.

Nickelback Fans

If your a Nickelback fan you MUST own this CD! This is the one that really turned me on to Nickelback. I loved it so much, I've bought it twice now. My first copy got lost in a move and this is my second copy.

If you like bands like Hinder, or Styx, this CD is for you. Their definately not Hard Rock, but they do have some great guitar rifs in some of the songs. Their lyrics are amazing.

Silver lining for Nickelback's - Silver Side Up

Created: 02/04/08
I had heard their song "Rockstar" on MTV and decided to check them out. I come from an age before mp3's and ipods so my choice was to get a cd & to my surprise the songs did not fail to impress me. They seem to have a combination of some bands from past years. They have the musical drive of Metallica combined with the similiar vocals of Kurt Cobain (RIP). This may seem strange to some of you, but try to imagine my point of view. I grew up on a wide (and i do mean wide) range of music. Growing up i heard everything from Jackie Gleason (yes, he was a singer as well as an actor) to Led Zeppelin. I also listened to the songs of Charlie Daniels along with the supergroup The Highwaymen (try looking them up). As for why I bought this cd, it was the right price and it had a few of the songs i was looking for. Would recommend to anyone who is wavering on wether or not to purchase the album (yes, i said album. shows you how old I am.)
