JP's Review of The Sims 2: Castaway (for Playstation 2)
Created: 07/06/08
Like many games, this one has advantages and disadvantages. On one hand, the game's character(s) have nothing but time. There is no hurry to anything I've played in it yet. However, unlike most games, the problems you encounter in Castaway are the same as real life- basically trying to find food, clothing, and shelter. Even bathing is important in this game!
At this time, I have not completed the game, and I have only played in single player mode. From that perspective, I have found Castaway interesting and fun, but very time consuming. I've noticed the game is designed to make a player backtrack for items needed to get a higher level (like many games), but moving between previous levels /screens sometimes takes 10-30 seconds(?). While I know it is simply the technology in the P2, it can be frustrating. Please Note: From my understanding of playing in multi-player mode, more "work" gets done in a shorter time frame, bc of the multiple players, so that may make the game go faster.
As well, in single player mode, your character has no-one to talk to but monkeys in the jungles, so you never hear words in the games audio, only caveman-ish grunts. Again, maybe diff in multi-player mode(?), but kinda boring.
As a player proceeds through the game, more options "open up" for the player, allowing them to do different things(again, similiar to most games). In this game, those options are usually regarding food, clothing, and shelter, so there is a feeling of independence and accomplishment that is more realistic than "slaying the dragon,", or at least in single player mode.
One drawback I have is; Unlike the ORIGINAL sim city- where you could delete /remove a mistake(something you built)[usually for a fee/penalty], and then build what you wanted (upgrades), I have not found anything in Castaway that allows this.
Ex/ TIP: If you don't like a hut you've built, you cant remove it- you can only wait for the weather/rain to destroy it. And I recomend you Don't build the basic emergency firepit. Just go straight to building one of the better ones, or you'll end up having two (or three) firepits bc you cant just upgrade the first one.
All in all, this is not a bad game. It has it's advantages and disadvantages, and in cost comparison, the {approx} $25.00 you'll pay will last a LOT longer in Castaway than a couple hours of Chucky Cheese or Dave& Busters. I hope this was helpful. Happy gaming!

=3 The Sims 2: Castaway for the Ps2 is AWESOME!!

Ok, this is my moms ebay account so i know i will sound immature alot and i use run on sentences and don't capitalize my i's and stuff (ya i text and am on computer alot, like most 12 year old girls but i'm a video game geek totally)....i'm not really trying to be grammatically correct, its my summer vaca. you know!!
ANYWAYS-- this game freakin rocks!! This game usually cost alot--like, erm, 30 bucks and stuff, so definitely try to get it on ebay or amazon or somewhere you can get things cheap. Even though i would say this game is probably worth 30 bucks, you know, especially with it being so new and everything. i wish i would have the money to buy it full price so i could be sure it would work you know, having it being shipped to me and all and being from people i dont know.
There's alot to do in the game, and you can pretty much make it last as long as you want. I would warn you: the first time you play this game build a ship crew dont go alone because even though you can make friends on the island, your social motive will be down alot. The 2nd time around trying the game or after you are kind of used to the game then go without a crew, then you will probabaly be able to go on alone. (cuz you know how the game works)
Sometimes the game gets hard, like when it's your first time to play you might have a hard time keeping your motives up, but usually you can keep them up.
I would like you to know i have rented this game 5 times, and am probabaly about to rent it again waiting for this bid to end and for the game to come. BTW i hope everyone else likes this game as much as i did!!
I <3 U!! (ily!!) =3

I played this game on the WII. Although I was not a fan of the game then, I got it for the PS2, with which I have all The Sims games. I prefer the PS2 version to the wII. I love that the clothes and hair styles your character starts out with, changes over time. Clothes get worn and tattered as you explore and learn to live on a deserted Island. Hair grows longer, just recently noticed that. You learn ways to survive and upgrade tools, clothing and home making. Teaching the monkeys to forage for you is a great help. With a broken back, you play a lot of video games, tv, movies, and books.

It was a very entertaining game. Enjoy making your own characters and naming them. Help them survive and find their friends on the deserted island. Good Game.

I love this game. I am a Sim's Fan since they started selling them for Playstation Console. If you love the sims, you will love this game. It has the same concepts, but you will have to actually be creating and figure out how to survive on the island. You will have to work and gather food and supplies. Your sim will get tired fast, so make an excellent bed to rest. There are monkey's on the island to talk to, you can even name them if you want. The best advice is to make more then one sim when you start. That way you can share the chours.
