Movie synopsis

"Just about the best Hollywood musical of all time," wrote Pauline Kael about SINGIN' IN THE RAIN.After years of honing his skills on the vaudeville stage, hoofer Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) has finally reached the top and become a swashbuckling star of the silent silver screen. Then the self-satisfied celebrity has his confidence shattered when ingenue Kathy Selden (Debbie Reynolds) dismisses film actors as "shadows" without substance. After getting over the insult, he falls hard for her--much to the consternation of his costar, the sexy, selfish Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen), who wants Don all to herself.But Don has career troubles too. The wild popularity of THE JAZZ SINGER has studios scrambling to change from silent films to talkies, and Lina's shrill voice and Don's stiff acting left the preview audience roaring with laughter. There's only one way to save the movie and their careers: turn THE DUELLING CAVALIER into a musical, with Kathy secretly dubbing in Lina's lines and songs. But can they hide the truth from Lina?

THIS is the one. The one Kurt Browning chose to skate to. The one everyone knows the songs from. Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, and Debbie Reynolds. Gene Kelly also did the choreography (always a plus IMHO). It offers a comic depiction of Hollywood's transition from silent films to 'talkies' with a leading lady with the most dreadful Brooklyn accent & singing voice. The movie is frequently described as one of the best musicals ever made, topping the AFI's 100 Years of Musicals list, and ranking fifth in its updated list of the greatest American films in 2007.

I am awed by the talent of Donald O'Connor and Gene Kelly for their dancing talent. I own and watch several classic musicals several times a year and Singin in the Rain is one of them so I needed it on DVD to replace my VHS version. The movie is imaginative, funny, has a good moral lesson to the story, justice prevails, it includes unbelievable dance segments, songs that are uplifting and memorable and the story has a happy ending. The DVD I won was brand new still in shrink wrap, perfect condition, and I paid $12.00 less for it than it sells for in the stores. It was a great deal! i love ebay!

This is the Best Movie Musical ever made.Gene Kelly,Debbie Reynolds & Donald O'Conner bring the Screen alive with there Song & Dance.They just do not make them like this any more.Complete & Total Fun for All Ages!!!!

THE DVD "SINGIN' IN THE RAIN" IS A GREAT MOVIE WHICH I ENJOY VIEWING AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH. IT JUST ELEVATES ONE'S SPIRITS AND GIVES MAKES YOU FEEL LIGHT AND HAPPY. IN COMPARING THIS MOVIE TO THE MORE RECENT HORROR AND "REALITY" TYPE MOVIES THIS IS ONE EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE THEIR FAMILIES, OLD AND YOUNG SEE.I'M SURE THEY WILL ALL ENJOY SEEING GOOD ACTING, MARVELOUS DANCING AND IT IS RANKED #10 OF THE BEST AMERICAN FILMS LIST.

Today's musicals like Phantom of the Opera? No comparison. Any musical that doesn't have great dancing is (to me) a downspin. That's today. Yesterday, there were greats like Singin in the Rain. Voted the best musical ever made and with good reason. It has everything a great musical should have. My favourite was the Kelly and Donald O'Connor dance duo. Wow! That's Dancing! You just don't see dancing like that anymore. Shame!
