Album Notes
Bush: Gavin Rossdale (guitar, vocals); Nigel Pulsford (guitar); Dave Parsons (bass); Robin Goodridge (drums).Additional personnel: Jasmine Lewis, Alessandro Vittorio Tateo, Winston (vocals); Gavin Wright (violin, viola); Carolina Dale (cello); Vincas Bundza (harmonica).Producers: Clive Langer, Alan Winstanley, Bush (all tracks).Recorded at Westside Studios, London, England. All songs written by Gavin Rossdale.Under the guidance of Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley -- the kings of early-'80s British pop -- Bush turn in an album that follows all the rules and sounds of American hard rock, specifically Nirvana and Pearl Jam. The group's two major hits, "Everything Zen" and "Little Things," are slick, assured professional replications of Nirvana's trademarks, but Bush also have a flair for big hooks and in Gavin Rossdale a frontman who has movie star charisma, all elements that turn Sixteen Stone into successful pop-grunge. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Editorial Reviews
...heavy enough to cause a ruckus but not too heavy to be considered overwhelming....Lead singer/guitarist/chief songwriter Gavin Rossdale has an engaging voice and sounds like it's seen its share of whiskey-soaked, smoke-filled bars....the songs....are the real stars of this album...

Sixteen Stone: A Guilty Pleasure

Created: 05/10/06
I have to admit, in the 1990s I was one of those musical snobs who hated that Bush had taken the masterpiece of Nirvana and distorted it into commercialized pop, but since then, I've mellowed, and recently gave Sixteen Stone another listen. I'll have to admit--I like it.
To me, Bush is the musical equivalent of Cosmopolitan magazine. Shakespeare it's not, but I pop the CD in, listen to it, love it and don't really have to think about it. It's not deep or meaningful, but it's good to listen to. There are plenty of hits here from Everything Zen, to Gylcerine to my fave Come Down. It's still good enough, though, to put in as back ground music and play all the way through.
Bush didn't change the world. The band was known as much for Gavin Rossdale's good looks as their music, but their contribution is that they became a part of the soundtrack to a decade of very interesting rock music. They are a guilty pleasure that are worth taking a listen to.

Not too unique, but that's ok

Created: 01/02/08
Bush may not do the whole grunge thing as well as Nirvana, but they have still managed to distinguish themselves enough and write some good enough songs to make a pretty solid album. Gavin's voice has a powerful quality to it and the use of slide guitar is a nice, unique touch.

Solid CD

I think it is the best Bush CD. I love 90's alternative/rock, and Gavin's voice is strong. If you like any Bush songs, you'll love this CD.

Cool stuff

Not alot of folks give Bush credit - but their debut album was really cool.
Lots of hooks, but underlying punk tones with some electronic pop texturing.
One for me - one for my wife!
