Album Notes
Skid Row: Sebastian Bach (vocals); Dave "The Snake" Sabo, Scotti Hill (guitar); Rachel Bolan (bass); Rob Affuso (drums).Recorded at Royal Recorders, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.Personnel: Dave "The Snake" Sabo (guitar).Audio Mixer: Michael Wagener .Recording information: De-Lane Lea Studios, London, England; Royal Recorders, Lake Geneva, WI.Unknown Contributor Roles: Rachel Bolan; Rob Affuso; Scott Hill; Sebastian Bach. The material on Skid Row is mostly typical pop-metal fluff, but since Skid Row was one of the hardest bands to find commercial success during the hair metal fad, the songs sound angrier and more aggressive than the lyrics and hooks might indicate. Part of this is due simply to the musical talent in the band, and part of it is due to vocalist Sebastian Bach; his tendency to oversing actually gives some much-needed nasty attitude to most of the songs, and when the music does match those sentiments (i.e., "Youth Gone Wild"), the results fulfill, rather than merely hint at, Skid Row's potential. But the melodies and songwriting are pretty consistent throughout the album, even if they aren't as close to true heavy metal as they sound. The hit power ballads "18 and Life" and "I Remember You" are musically generic, but Bach's over the top delivery makes them guilty pleasures as well. ~ Steve Huey

Editorial Reviews
...Their sound coalesced around Moore's burn-up blues guitaring....Cream, Allman Brothers and Hendrix are obvious influences....[they] had a spare intensity all their own...
Mojo

3 Stars - Good - ...this debut still stands as a bracing fusion of street smart riffage, riddled with commercial hooks....Not quite a classic but certainly a notable debut.

Created: 18/10/09
Basic overview
this is a great CD a must have for 80s hair metal lovers or just hard rockers in general it has a lot of good songs (in my opinion) if you have never heard of Skid Row check out the song 18 And Life from this album

Detailed Description
Lyrics: 9/10 lyrics on this cd the songs shows classic rock styles of off colour lyrics eg Sex, Drugs and rock n roll

Vocals: 10/10 Sebastian Bach shows his powerfull vocal power on this one with songs like 18 and life and I Remember You being the bigest shows of his range. Dave "snake" Sabo and Rachel Bolans backing vocals fit the songs perfectly

Guitars: 10/10 brilliant Guitar work, great solos need i say more

Bass 10/10 great bass riffs not stand out but the songs arnt bass driven songs so it fits well. with the possibal exeption of Peice Of Me which the bass is a major part and drives the song.

Drums: 10/10 simple to the point drum beats nothing fancy but all fit the songs well a few nice fills in there to

all in all a Great CD with some of Skid Rows best songs. in my opinion deffinately my favorite Skid Row Album check it out if your a 80s metal fan or a hard rocker in general

I havn't listen to this in ages. But just by looking at this I still remeber the songs. Starting at the very first one. This was when "the Hair Bands" were at their top. A must have for anyone that love the Hair bands but missed out on Sebastian Bach and Crew. I miss my ripped jeans :(

Late 80's Hard Rock Starring Skid Row

Created: 03/08/06
This is a classic 80's rock cd. Skid Row came into the act late, but that came with hair, rocking guitars, and a roaring vocalist. Like most of they're predecessors they had it all, the long hair, the leather, and the Rage of yesterday's youth. What they did lack was the typical Hair Band make up. Thank God for that the world doen't need another Poison. Skid Row ended the eighties with some great classis like Youth Gone Wild, I'll remember you, and 18 and Life. Great Album for it's time and still a great album today! Rock ON

18andlife...goes on!

Created: 13/12/07
the debut album from this jersey band is not their best effort, but it has a few worthy tracks buried within."youth gone wild","piece of me","18 and life"& "sweet little sister". the rest of the album, the band can't decide which road to take, "bonjovi" or "guns n roses". it ends up sounding like a cross-between.their next 2 records would end up being light years beyond this one.this would have been better as an e.p.!
