SynopsisOnce again, the folks at America's Test Kitchen have combined their love of good food with their determination to make home cooking a simple, reliable, and rewarding endeavor even for people without a minute to spare. This time, their solution was to take the modern slow cooker (replacing what many will remember from an earlier and more limited incarnation as the "crock pot") and come up with recipes that still require little time up front for the cook but result in dishes that are much tastier and more varied than the standard stews and casseroles associated with this method of cooking. You probably didn't envision lasagna and fruit cobblers when you thought of slow cookers before; you will now. Even old standards have been updated (there is an entire chapter devoted to chili, and another to barbecue!). Mouthwatering dishes (Red Wine-Braised Short Ribs, Tequila-Lime Turkey Chili, Sticky Wings, Nutella Hazelnut Chocolate Bread Pudding) all appear with minimal effort, and, as the page-size color photos of the completed recipes will attest, these slow-cooked foods are appealing to the eye as well as the appetite.
