Album Notes
Includes liner notes by Scott Schinder.Liner Note Author: Scott Schinder.Recording information: 1970-2002.Photographers: Chuck Pulin; Neal Preston; Robert Matheu. It's a delicious irony that one of the best roots-rockers ever to refurbish American musical traditions was a British subject. The definitive single-disc Dave Edmunds compilation, FROM SMALL THINGS, spans the Cardiff giant's career, from his early-1970s smash Fats Domino cover "I Hear You Knocking" to the Jeff Lynne-produced, ELO-flavored '80s track "Slipping Away" and beyond. Not only did Edmunds have a knack for picking (and interpreting) classics from the masters and crafting old-school rockers of his own (the rockabilly romp "Stay with Me Tonight"), he was also adept at nabbing songs by his contemporaries that perfectly matched his rock & roll aesthetic. Nick Lowe ("I Knew the Bride [When She Used to Rock and Roll]"), Graham Parker ("Crawling from the Wreckage"), and Bruce Springsteen ("From Small Things [Big Things One Day Come]") are all represented by tunes that, in Edmunds's capable hands, sound like '50s jukebox standards. Is it any wonder that Edmunds's own heroes, such as Del Shannon and the Everly Brothers, eventually sought out the Welsh wonder's production assistance?

Slightly disappointed

Created: 18/06/08
Slightly disappointed because it appears a few tracks were not the original studi versions but appear to have been re-done by Dave...which is OK, but I prefer the originals...also disappointed that they opted to put the 'live' version of "Girls Talk"...and unless your name is Bob Seger or Peter Frampton, chances are i am not going to like your live stuff as well. Dave Edmunds is a phenomenally gifted producer and a whiz in the studio, which is why I prefer his studio work to anything live. But I am a big fan regardless.
