Album Notes
Recorded at Master Control Studios, Burbank, California. All songs written by Mark Mothersbaugh and Gerald V. Casale.Audio Mixer: Jeff Lord-Alge.Audio Remixers: Hugo Dwyer; Justin Strauss.Recording information: Master Control Studios, Burbank, CA.Photographer: Laddy Van Jansky. On SMOOTH NOODLE MAPS, the band went back to the heavily programmed sound of SHOUT and TOTAL DEVO. Also gone was the band's trademark bizarre humor, resulting in an album that sounds very similar to other late-'80s synth bands. The album's first two tracks prove to be the best. "Stuck In A Loop" is a catchy dance tune, while "Post Post-Modern Man" is a charming piece of pop tunefulness (the CD version of SMOOTH NOODLE MAPS features three different remixes of the track at the disc's end). Other intriguing songs include "A Change Is Gonna C**," "Pink Jazz Trancers," and "Devo Has Feelings Too." This would prove to be Devo's third and final album for the independent Enigma label, as the band opened their Mutato Muzika recording studio in California, becoming a successful songwriting team for movies and TV in the '90s (Pee Wee's Playhouse, Rugrats, etc.).

Editorial Reviews
Performance Post-postmodern / Recording Very good - ...SMOOTHNOODLEMAPS is sort of an electrified folk album...On the precipice of a new age, the band is back from the computerized drawing board with new ideas, banking on a calculated combination of emotion, intellect, wit, and rhythm to point us foolish humans over the hump toward a better future...

A Collector Item But Stick To The Early Devo

Created: 09/04/08
I got this album to complete my Devo collection. I had the original 1990 release and thought when I got this one I would go back over & give it a listen. Well, this version from 1994 on the Restless Records label (out of print and EXTREMELY hard to find)is still just "OK" with me. The other thing that you should know is that many sellers SAY they have the 14 track version but you order it, you get the 11 track version. So beware and ask the seller first or get multiple copies that are wrong. So if your looking to complete a Devo collection, then get this one but the album is far from a great record. Stick with the first four Devo albums. Search Judemac Forever on msn, Yahoo or Google.

Pink Jazz Trancers

Created: 14/05/08
I love Devo and I love this album. I've seen fans and critics alike tear this one apart but I never could understand what they hated about it. I admit that it's not as quirky and raw as previous albums but if you love a solid new wave album with fantastic lyrics you need this in your collection. 5 Huge Stars.
