    Movie synopsis

Director David Gordon Green (GEORGE WASHINGTON) adds another carefully sculpted drama to his resume with SNOW ANGELS. Green deposits a strong cast in a snowbound Pennsylvania town for his fourth full-length feature, which revolves around the troubled teenage life of young Arthur (Michael Angarano). Arthur divides his time between working at a Chinese restaurant and dealing with the break up of his parents. His endearing lack of self-confidence is tempered when new-girl-in-town Lila (Olivia Thirlby) shows a romantic interest in him. Meanwhile, Arthur's co-worker and former babysitter, Annie (Kate Beckinsale), is trying to raise her child alone after the failure of her marriage to the unhinged Glenn (Sam Rockwell). Annie also embarks on an unwise affair with Nate (Nicky Katt), who happens to be married to her best friend. Green's central characters try to make the best of their modest lives until a major incident, dropped halfway through the movie, raises the tension between Annie and Glenn to breaking point.Beckinsale, Rockwell, and Angarano all deliver consummate performances, and they are joined by a strong supporting cast that includes Griffin Dunne and a rare straight role for comedian Amy Sedaris. Green's style, so often compared to that of Terrence Malick, takes a slightly different turn here as the director delivers a relatively straightforward thriller. But the change suits him, and SNOW ANGELS contains enough edge-of-your-seat tension to keep audiences curious as to where the director is going to take them.

Arthur & Annie both work at the same chinese resturant, Arthur is the busboy and Annie is a waitress. These two have a close relationship since Arthur was little Annie used to babysit him as a child.Annie has a young daughter Tara, and her and her husband Glen don't live together anymore ever since when Annie was leaving him he got really depressed and was going to commit suicide.Things get rocky for this seperated couple when Annie starts to have an affair with a married man, and Glen finds out.Meanwhile Arthur plays in the band at high school, and the band teacher is very dedicated to make the performance perfect. When Arthur meets Lila it is an alomost instant attraction to one another.Lila loves to capture the moment by taking pictures, weather happy or sad photos. But when Annie's daughter Tara can't be found it turns into a whirlwind search in the freezing cold snow. The next events that happen change the lives of everyone in this small town in a different way.I was expecting more from this movie, it was more depressing, with Annie's husband Glen is unstable. It does show life in a new perspective, that every choice we make can effect people around us.Would recommend to rent.Hope this helps you decide. Please click YES at the bottom. Thanks for taking the time to read this. :)

Sad Story of Loss and Recovery

    Created: 31/12/08
The frame of this story is a high school band practice interrupted by what sounds like gunshots coming from the woods beyond the school. Flashback several weeks to the lives of Arthur and Annie (Kate Beckinsale), his former babysitter. While previews indicate tension between Arthur and Annie, and I thought this would be about a romantic present day reunion between former babysitter and charge, this was actually parallel stories about their lives. Annie is estranged from totally off his rocker husband Glenn (Sam Rockwell). He is talking to himself in an artificial upbeat way that reminded me of Clark Griswold at the end of Family Vacation. There are intimations that he attempted suicide and he clearly has a drinking problem. The tension between Annie and Glenn derives in part from their teen romance, but more due to time with 3-year old daughter, Tara. Meanwhile, Arthur deals with the break up of his parents' marriage, typical teenage angst at school and in life (working at a Chinese restaurant where Annie also happens to work), and budding romance with classmate, Lila. The action picks up as Glenn spirals out of control and Annie has an affair with best friend Annie's husband, Nate. The rest of Annie's life is pure tragedy. Arthur meanwhile strangely recovers and one is left to wonder whether or not there was any point to Arthur's storyline at all. Annie's is so poignant and even Glenn's is so real, while Arthur's is just a pat stereotype.

    Very Bad Movie

    Created: 06/07/10
I did not like this movie at all. It has no plot and is full of very poor acting. The writer and producers need to think about making good movies. I fell asleep twice trying to watch this BORING movie. If someone were to ask what it is about I could not tell them. It has NO PLOT. I bought it expecting a good movie. I was very disappointed. I never bothered watching it through to the end. I would be more entertained watching paint dry.

I bought this movie because I like so much independent films and I've heard about this one in particular with great reviews. Amazing story and directing, and good performances too.
I didn't like that it the DVD doesn't have behind the scenes, comments for the writers/ directors or alternate endings like is usually presented in other movies.
I highly recommend this movie for people who like the genre of crime/suspense drama.

    Sam Rockwell's performance is awesome.

A pretty sombre viewing experience, but well written, and an absolutely fabulous performance by Sam Rockwell. A very unique movie that will surely fly under the radar and unfortunately, likely be missed by most. Very real, smartly written, and perfectly acted. I wish more movies were like this.
