Snow Walker a movie of Farley Mowat's story
Created: 08/01/10
Great movie about a Pilot who endures and comes to personality change due to his exposure to the Canadian North after his plane crashes, and his efforts to survive along with his Inuit passenger; who ultimately provides him with the training and ability to save himself. Directed by Charlie Martin Smith (Never Cry Wolf, American Graffiti, Fringe) the extras on the DVD about the making of the movie are great, and as interesting as the movie itself.

The Snow Walker stands as an exceptional movie for a number of reasons: stunning scenery, engaging story of survival, transformation & sacrifice, noteworthy acting in the characters played by Barry Pepper and Annabella Piugattuk (truly real/believable). And the special features background and interviews regarding the making of the film make it an even more interesting and appreciated work of art.

The Snow Walker (2005, DVD)

This film is a small gem that only got a small release, too bad, it deserved better. It had a well writen script that was inspired by Farley Mowat. Very good directing was evident.
The acting was very well done and belivable. But it was the scenery and the tundura that made this epic come true to life for me.
This movie should be re-released.
I will add this to my personal collection.

A fine, low-budget movie.

This is a story of the educational experience of the lead character, a pilot who learns the falseness of prejudice. Although I would have omitted a couple of scenes and inserted a couple of more, this film turned out rewarding. I will watch it again--which is one way I judge movies. While I wish the final scene had been extended, the viewer is left to consider the snow walker's new perspective on life, and how he will now interact with the world.

Great scenery and the acting isn't bad either!

The scenery is absolutly stunning - shot on site in the Arctic. People who saw Never Cry Wolf will recognize the style (and the director is the same guy who starred in Never Cry Wolf). The production company is owned by the same guy from Babe the pig movies.
The Inuit girl is major cute and while she doesn't have many lines, she gets her point across really well. And to think, she REALLY knows how to do all the stuff you see in the movie!!
Barry Pepper is the perfect foil in this and the chemistry between them is outstanding.
I just can't say enough good things about this movie. Watch it - you WILL like it.
WARNING: there aren't aren't too many shoot-em-up explosions and car chases in this movie (in fact, there aren't any), so if that is what you are looking for this is not the movie for you.
