A sitcom in a class all its own!
Created: 15/01/09
From September 1977 to June 1981, the television sitcom "Soap" had audiences riveted with its madcap assortment of zany characters and off-the-wall plotlines, well incorporated within the framework of this groundbreaking, landmark series. It was also appropriately named, as it played out just like an actual soap opera that airs in daytime television. As announcer Rod Roddy stated at the start of every episode, "This is the story of 2 sisters; Jessica Tate and Mary Campbell." Jessica's family consisted of her husband Chester who was an unfaithful spouse, daughter Corrine who would marry a priest, daughter Eunice who falls for a convict, teenage son Billy who was once kidnapped by a religious cult, and her father The Major who still believes that he is fighting World War II. Mary's family consisted of her husband Burt who belived he was invisible, son Danny who is associated with the mafia, gay son Jody who directs commercials, and stepson Chuck who always carries around his dummy Bob. There were also a lot of great supporting characters, as well. Just like on a soap opera, the story lines carried over from one episode to the next. This was brilliant television comedy that was a whole lot of fun to watch. The show dealt with scenarios such as infidelity, interracial romance, alien abduction, kidnapping, intended suicide, being left stranded at the altar and hypnotism gone awry, among other things. The show also went on to win Emmy awards. This DVD set contains all 90 hilarious episodes, presented in their entirety and in the original broadcast running order. "Soap" is truly one-of-a-kind.

Soap - The Complete Series (DVD, 2008, 12-Disc Set)

Bought this because I watched the first season, and decided I needed to see all 4 seasons.
If you like the series Soap, this is a good buy. The show is great, but the presentation of the DVD could use more work. The menu screens are grainy, the DVDs are kept in a pile in a tray with a spindle rather than individual cases, there is no episode guide, and I didn't even know there were DVD extras until I unexpectedly found them on one of the discs. I've seen better presentation skills on bootleg DVDs from China. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5.
The quality is as can be expected from a 1970's tv show, but is still much better than you'll get from a download.

SOAP, the series

This was always one of my favorite tv shows in the 1970's. To have it all, the entire series, on DVD, in a boxed set, is GREAT. SOAP is one of the funniest series of its time. If you were a fan of Taxi, Barney Miller, WKRP, and other series of the time, You know what I' talking about. Every week was like a ritual. Everyone was home on the night SOAP aired, as there were no VCR's, back in the day, you HAD to be in front of a TV set every week for your favorites, and this was certainly one of them.

Lots of fun learning the whole story

Soap was a pretty funny show, it broke some boundries on TV. I watched it some when it was on TV and have seen re-runs since then, although they are rarely shown lately. It was nice to see the whole bunch of episodes on this DVD and learn different plot twists that I had missed before. It is good comedy and even funnier when I see the whole collection and understand all the jokes and references to the previous episodes. It's pretty off the wall and not normal, just like a "soap" should be. A great concept, well written and acted. It is more entertaining than most of the current TV shows. I was glad to be able to get the whole collection, view it in the order of broadcast, and laugh like mad.

Soap-The Complete Series

I liked the tv show SOAP for it's portrayal of 2 sisters families, that had problems that weren't on every channel, at least not in the early hours of prime time. The actors/actresses worked very well together, and made you think that they actually were family, with their oddities, addictions, jobs, or sexual addictions/preferences. A show that I loved for the laughter, tears, fears, situations, moral indiscretions, and hang-ups. I had to bid on several sets before I was able to get one, unfortunately I'am not a Gates/Rockefeller/Trump descendant you know! Maybe that's not a bad thing either. But anyways, truly a spectacular show reminiscent of the 'old days' back in the 1970's.
