An unabashedly manufactured commercial product, SOME HEARTS is the sound of mainstream country in the 2000s heavily steeped in glossy pop. There's nothing downhome or roots-conscious about Underwood's voice or looks: she's the pretty blonde next door with a fine singing voice, but the powers that be have made her a country artist, and that's what the public gets.None of this is to say that SOME HEARTS is not a good pop album. The combination of Underwood's considerable gift and the slick, spot-on production of Dan Huff and Mark Bright makes for a fine package. Even on somewhat by-the-numbers tunes (like her smash hit "Inside Your Heaven"), Underwood sings with conviction, and she does well with both the ballads and the uptempo tracks. Idol viewers and fans of artists like Faith Hill and Shania Twain will want to check this out.

Best Country Album of the Year!

Created: 04/12/06
Like all American Idol produced albums, there is always some inconsistency with production and etc... There is the slightest bit of this on Carrie's album. We first began to truly see this with Fantasia's exceptional debut, Ruben sophomore effort (better than his debut Soulful), and of course multi-platinum pop-rocker Kelly Clarkson's Grammy deserving Breakaway. SOME HEARTS presents a truly credible country album without the American Idol aspect attached, which may mark the first American Idol debut to officially shed that image.

Carrie's debut is just as expected-a country set that has some pop sensibilities. The emphasis is on some because for the most part, this album will appeal to those who loved Carrie on American Idol as well as those who love a good country album. The pop sensibility comes with such a track as the excellent "Some Hearts" which features driving guitars, slick production and Carrie rising to a high E. Despite that, Carrie sings her heart out on this appropriate title track.

On her opening track "Wasted", as with ever American Idol album, Carrie's grabs the audience's attention with a well written selection that shows off Carrie's pure upper register. That is followed by an incredibly country influenced "Don't Forget to Remember Me", which isn't a bad track, but it slightly lessens the heightened momentum created by the great "Wasted". Nonetheless, that is where "Some Hearts" and the touching first single "Jesus Take The Wheel," which is made of a stunning piano, string, and electric guitar driven arrangement, throw the album back into full swing. Other notable highlights from SOME HEARTS include "Before He Cheats" which uses a bluesy production sound mixed with the first time that I've personally heard Carrie achieve some much needed grit to her pure voice. Selections "Whenever Your Remember" and "I Ain't in Chocatoe No More" also steal the show. There are some other tracks of less notability, yet it is important to note that this album is consistent for the most part lending many great tracks besides the major ones such as "We're Young and Beautiful" and "Starts with Goodbye".

While this album has a few flaws (Carrie over sings slightly on "When you're Beautiful"), for the most part it is well produced, Carrie's pitch is impeccable, and it is just a fine, well rounded debut. Where this album is concerned- a big fat 4 stars from a non-Carrie fan for this very fine debut.

Pretty good CD

Created: 26/11/05
The formula seems foolproof: Take a country-leaning, photogenic "American Idol" winner, team her with A-list Music Row producers, secure a few Diane Warren songs and an instant country diva is born. Underwood is more than up to the challenge, nailing slow-burn country midtempos like "Wasted" and "The Night Before (Life Goes On)" with personality and serious vocal chops. The single "Jesus, Take the Wheel" is a gentle showcase of her vocal power, and she transcends the faux-rock material on Warren's "Lessons Learned" and "Some Hearts." Underwood shows a bluesy edge on "Before He Cheats" and "We're Young and Beautiful," and wails impressively on piano-based ballads like "Starts With Goodbye." She may have a nice platform to kick off her career, but ultimately Underwood will be a star because of her own considerable talents.

This CD is nothing short of Excellent.

Created: 23/03/07
Kelly Clarkson has a new contender in the arena of mega stars being born from American Idol. This CD is excellent from start to finish, EVERY song on this album could be a radio hit. I've had this CD since Christmas, and I still listen to it on a regular basis. Even though I'm not a HUGE country fan, I fell in love with her on American Idol when she sang Heart's Song. I knew right then and there she would be a star.

Her voice is that of a well-seasoned performer which is obviously deserving of acknowledgement in the music industry. Some may not agree, but I feel her voice is just as, if not better than a lot of the seasoned artists such as Faith Hill, Shania Twain etc... That says alot about a newcomer IMO... Remember, this is only my opinion, and the way I hear their voices.

If you do not have this CD, you need it...Heartfelt, beautifully written lyrics will have you feeling and relating to each and every song in some way...even rock or pop fans will be pleasantly surprised with some of her more "edgy" songs. This Album makes you want to know her personally. Country music fan or not, you will LOVE this album and appreciate the undeniable talent that IS Carrie Underwood. EXCELLENT.

I HAVE A FEELING THIS ISN'T AMERICAN IDOL ANYMORE

Created: 20/11/06
It's like this, Some Hearts is a very good album. This album is so sticky, sweet and sappy it makes pancake syrup seem salty.
But somehow it works, the American Idol winner becomes a full-fledge star. Carrie's vocals are awesome and most of the songs hold their own. The critics and some country music lovers complain about how she found her stardom. Alas, American Idol finds real talent and Carrie Underwood has real talent. She fits in fine and often better than many of today's current country music stars. The older stars in country music are just jealous that there day has passed.
Carrie has star quality.
Songs on the album like Wasted, Don't Forget To Remember Me, Jesus Take the Wheel, Before He Cheats and I Ain't in Checotah Anymore are some of the highlights on the album.
At the end of the day, we know Carrie is a talented, genuine Star. I find myself saying this to her critics, "I have a feeling this Isn't American Idol Anymore." "Get over it, because in 10 years most of you will be saying great things about her and eating crow."

What a great song

Created: 07/10/06
This CD is great. First, I was a little skeptical when Carrie Underwood's CD came out in what seemed like record time after her American Idol win. However it is proving to be a fantastic CD. The song Jesus Take the Wheel, makes me turn the radio up and sing every time but then so does Don't Forget to Remember Me and the Next Time He Cheats. Jesus Take the Wheel isn't so much a religious song as it is a stop and take stock of what it is going on in our life song. Don't Forget to Remember Me brings me back to when I first left home. Of course my situation was different but the bills were mine and I know I told my family I was fine even when I was eating peanut butter and bread sandwiches for every meal. The song I Ain't in Checotah Anymore lets us see a side of Carrie that may not come out in other songs. It is also a play on word for We're not in Kansas Anymore. It is cute and catchy. My final pick for this album was The Next Time He Cheats. Wow! That is a powerful song with lots of irony. It is also a complete turn around from some of her other songs. It just gives her more dimension. First, she is young, sweet, and sexy and then she shows that she has some backbone too! This album is a total product. The voice is there, the range is there, and the song choices are just ...'sweet'!
