This extends to the production, with the entire album framed as a broadcast from a left-of-the-dial AM radio station, the sonics compressed so every instrument is flattened. It's a joke run wild, punctuated by an ironic mock DJ, and it fits an album where the players run wild. As usual, Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri have brought in a number of guests, including Mark Lanegan on vocals and Dean Ween on guitar, but they've anchored themselves with the drumming of the mighty Dave Grohl, who helps give the band the muscle sorely missing from most guitar rock these days, whether it's indie rock or insipid alt-metal. QOTSA may be a muso band -- a band for musicians and those who have listened to too much music; why else did the greatest drummer and greatest guitarist in '90s alt-rock (Grohl and Ween, respectively) anxiously join this ever-shifting collective? -- but that's the pleasure of the band, and Songs for the Deaf in particular: it's restless and pummeling in its imagination and power. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Editorial Reviews
9 out of 10 - ...All of what you might want from them and their music is here. There are great titles, displays of extraordinary rock'n'roll and great disturbing pop...
NME

All the elements which made its predecessor so great are here, but in excelsis...the thrill of these ensemble performances is downright scary.

Best rock album since 2000? Quite Possibly

Created: 02/03/08
Well, being relatively uninitiated in Queens of the Stone Age, I wasn't sure what to expect. This album blew me away from the powerful opening of You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar, But I Feel Like a Millionaire to the hauntingly beautiful acoustic Mosquito Song.
This album is right about where I like the heaviness to be at with my music, on the border of hard rock and metal. There's plenty of great guitar solos here, but it never goes over the top to where it is musical masturbation(can anyone say DragonForce?).
In short, this is an excellent addition to any rock fan's library. To me, this qualifies as a masterpiece, but don't blame me if you don't like it. However, you'd have to be mentally unstable to not find something you like here.

A great CD

Created: 21/09/06
Every song on this album is unique in its style, one that only QOTSA could deliver.
Even 4 years after it's release, Songs for the Deaf is still a great modern rock album with songs like "No One Knows", "A Song for the Dead", "Go With the Flow", and "Millionaire".
One of the reasons I bought this CD was from watching CKY 4, where "Millionaire" was featured on the intro. A great song, a great band... great CD. Go out and buy it.

What's the saga?? It's Songs for the Deaf!

Created: 15/10/09
This has gotta be one of the coolest concept albums out there; cruising through the desert, scanning the radio with interludes of static and cartoonish DJs introducing QOTSA tunes!

Like all their albums, there is an eclectic mix on here that is sure to have something for everyone. From the radio singles "No One Knows" and "Go With The Flow" to plenty of fast and hard (and a little dark) tracks. This is a good intro to the musicianship and warped humor that is QOTSA.

I can Go with the Flow!

One of my favorite CDs of all times. I love listening to it both on my iPod and on the CD player in my car. I only don't really care for two of the tracks, but Go with the Flow is one of my new theme songs. A must buy for the absolute rocker!

Queens of the Stone Age

If your looking for some shredding guitars and whipping, speed rock. This albums for you. With a lot of screaming from Olivera(bass player) and crooning from Josh Homme(lead singer)powerly dominates this monster of an album. It's an amazing achievement for an genuine hard rock band.
