Sonic the Hedgehog PS3 - Buyer Beware
Created: 11/12/07
It saddens me to think this game was the reason why I bought a PS3 (before the game came out). I picked up the game on it's release and just got around to reviewing it because I'm new to ebay.
For the retail price of 60 dollars (I'm sure it may be different now) this game is not worth it. If you must have this game buy it at 25 dollars or below (you can find it 25 dollars used at eb games I believe).
Story: There are 3 hedgehogs (Sonic, Shadow, and Silver) you play as through the game with the occasional appearance by minor characters from the Sonic series (e.g. Tails, Knuckles)
Pros:
Before I begin, please understand there aren't too many things which can be said good about this game.
Many playable characters. The three main characters are hedgehogs, and are supported by minor characters know through the Sonic franchise. It was nice to have all characters playble, but this service does more harm than good.
Game length: I think the game took me about 30 hours to beat namly because of a poor camera and poor level design.
Music: Ever since I picked up my first Sonic game in 1991 (I was 5 I believe) Sonic music has been memorable. This series continues it's legacy.
Cons:
Story: There is a lot wrong with the story, namley the tip of the iceberg Hedgehogs and humans aren't meant to kiss. Sega what are you thinking?
Camera: The game camera is awful. When you want it to look the right way it won't. Basically you can't angle the camera in the direction you want which leads to you dying a lot.
Sonic: He has specialized fast sections; while fun they can be incredibly difficult and annoying due to graphic issues (especially the castle one).
Shadow: He has vehicle sections in levels which slowdown the pace of the game and are annoying.
Silver: While the concept of Silver solving puzzles is fun, it can be hard and annoying at times. In a pyramid room where you have to hit balls into a special platform, I found myself wanting to throw my controller at the TV out of frustration.
Load times: You have to wait 15-30 seconds in load times to see a cinematic lasting 3 seconds, to only go into another 15-30 load time. This becomes very frustrating if you fail at an open world event and are forced to repeat this over and over. Furthermore, you are forced to sit through load times while your in the level transitioning to the next Act (if you can call it that).
Replayability: The game has a few memorable stages, but overall I did not feel compelled to pick up the game and replay it. You can replay and attempt to collect all of the emblems and gold coins, but I'm not sure if there is a reward for doing this incredibly tedious task.
Closing Notes:
Bottom line: If you like Sonic this is either a hit or miss. You should probably rent this game before you buy into its flaws, or save your money and buy Sonic Mega Collection PS2 to remember the good days; because if Sonic continues in this direction his future is bleak.
If you buy this for Kids: All of the things wrong with this game probably won't be that noticable to children; because overall the game is fun, but has many frustrating moments. Will this game keep your kids occupied; yes; but there's a chance they will become frustrated and bored easily.
If you buy this for Adults: They probably won't like this. You'd probably be better off giving them a pre-order on Little Big Planet, Grand Theft Auto 4, Grand Trismo 5 or Metal Gear Solid 4.

blue ray gaming ps3 style

likes:
nice looking cut sequences.
great animation.
comparable to sonic and the secret rings on the nintendo wii but much easier to play with the sixasis controller.
again the game is guided in terms of the direction and sometimes when playing with the likes of tail's it can be a challenge but worth it once mastered :)
dislikes:
when theres a number of bad guys on screen my ps3 80 gig american version screen lags a little although catches up a second or so later.
although some might say gameplay is ok, i like it as easy as can be if not a little challenging if that makes sense. therefore on the initial levels when your running around trying to figure out what to do, sega could have made better use of the navigation map by putting some sort of directional arrow. however thats just me saying that.
why buy it?:
1) it was a bargain as it was on ebay
2) ever since sonic on the sega master system i've been hooked
3) it does the ps3 justice in terms of graphics and gameplay even on a rear projection crt monitor!
4) a must buy for your collection, be the envy of all your friends :)

Not that Great
Created: 05/12/08
well i was really excited to get this game cause i was hoping the graphics would be amazing, but i was less than satisfied. yes the cut scenes were awesome an lifelike but as soon as it cut over into game play the graphics went kaput. i played about 3 levels 2 with sonic an one with Silver, and it was fun but the levels are a lil difficult to navigate at high speeds. ALSO the beginning needs more time to inform u how to use the controls!! they try to teach them to u while in game play fighting enemies, doesn't give u a lot of time to learn them. an the second joystick that controls the camera angle cant be adjusted so for all those who are used to inverted controls BEWARE it SUCKS but if u are looking to waste time in a fun repetitive way then this does the trick, i would say its appropriate for ages 6-an older. maybe they will come out with another one with a better plot as well, i want sonic to be in a dark stage for his next game, like more of a sad story rather than DEFEAT this monster type thing?!!!

PS3 Sonic the Hedgehog disappointing
Created: 04/02/07
Sonic the Hedgehog has always been a classic game for the sega system. With this release of Sonic for the PS3 all the great action is still there, but it has quite a bit of flaws.
The Good: The game play and graphics are pretty good. Lots of playable characters (once you earn them). The game is as fast paced, if not faster than previous titles released and is great fun to play. Levels are somewhat challenging and also features a two player co-op type mode.
The Bad: Some people will find that this major flaw in the game will either make or break it. The main issue I have is that the camera view is not a locked view, so you are constantly fumbling to hit the L1 button or rotating the right joystick to center your characters view. The thing is that the game is so fast paced, but the camera revolves so sluggishly. Trying to play this game and adjust camera view with the joystick turned it into a stomach churning episode of the Blair Witch Project. I had to put the controller down and take a break while playing this game because of the camera view.
Conclusion: This is a great game for strictly gameplay, the whole viewing system is another story and earns no thumbs up from me. I would definitely have anyone interested in this game go RENT it first. It truly isn't worth the $60 they ask for it. I can justify spending $30 or $40 for this, but for $60 a copy they should've just locked the camera view instead of a free view system. I give this an Average score for an average game.

SONIC NEEDS WORK!
Created: 03/10/07
Every time a new Sonic game is announced, gamers take notice. We desperately want it to be good so we can relive the glory days of the Mario vs. Sonic / Nintendo vs. Sega wars of the early 90’s, but for the last five years or so we have been disappointed when the game finally arrived. Sonic’s next-gen debut is no different. Camera issues, load times, poor gameplay, and an ever-growing cast of extra characters no one cares about make the new Sonic the Hedgehog hard to enjoy.
If you want to try this game then RENT it..Do not buy it before you see what the game play is like. The graphics are GREAT, (360 VIEW)but very disappointed Overall.
Sonic the Hedgehog is 100% BETTER ON SEGA GENISIS OR GBA!
