Product Information
The Sonic the Hedgehog experience has always been a platform design that more focused on running blazingly fast through the environments. Sonic Rush adds a "boost" element where players can now counterattack enemies waiting in off-screen blindspots. This boosting element is limited, and players will have to build up the power in order to use it, but when it's in stock it becomes incredibly handy and almost necessary to utilize. The new design also introduces a very "extreme games" style move system where players can pull off special moves to score additional points and to boost power. These moves can be pulled off with button and D-pad combinations while leaping in the air as well as grinding on some rails. And, of course, there's the dual screen aspect. The development team use the two screens as one display to give more of a viewable area.

Whoa, now thats some fast fun

Well, I'm relatively new to the Sonic games and I must say that this game is pretty darn fun. I do know of the basic charachters: Sonic, Tails and the Eggman, all of whom are featured in this game. However I was a tad bit dissapointed that Knuckles was not inluded.

In any case I should carry on to the gameplay. You've got a variety of level types to play through such as typical land, underwater, in space and more. Also as usual you play as Sonic the Hedgehog and run through the levels whilst dodging baddies and traps so that you can stop the Eggman's evil plots.

The game utilises both of the screens of the NDS or NDSL, which makes the game challenging yet exciting. As you run, you may do something like running up a hill; at this point you would likely run from bottom to top screen. So you've got to keep focussed on the game so you dont lose your character in the ultra speedy lightning speed running blitz. Whew! All the loops, curves and corkscrews got me all twisted up.

Now of course there is multiplayer as well, not just multiplayer, but single card multiplayer! The best kind. Hmm... mabye I should actually play that part so I can review it too...

This is absolutely one of the better games for the DS, but there are quite a few that I would recommend before it (see my other reviews). This game uses both screens at the same time as if they were one, which few DS games do. This creates a visually spectacular game, however it can be difficult to follow the action. Sonic moves incredibly fast which is what makes him who he is, but in this game he moves so quickly its doesn't feel like you are controlling his movements as much as simply watching him blaze through the levels in a blur. The Boss levels are done in 3D which is a nice touch. Visually this is probably the best game for the DS and the gameplay is pretty good too. Overall the game is fairly short but fun. There's something for everybody with this game, however most people would problably really like this game rather than absolutely love it.

A great old-style Sonic game with new-style graphics.

Sonic Rush is definitely a great game to pick up for DS owners who are fans of the classic style Sonic games. The game utilizes the graphic capabilities of the DS, but maintains the classic 2D style of gameplay. The ability to play as both Sonic and Blaze adds replay value, though I think it would have been better if Blaze's story was more different. The game also introduces full-3D boss battles that still use the 2D mechanics, with unique ways of damaging the bosses.

Of course, all games have negatives. Between playing as Sonic and Blaze, you may be feeling a bit of Deja Vu; there's not much difference. Also, there's a lot of storyline to read through, and you can't just skip it with one button. And having the somewhat annoying voices of Tails and Cream coaching you through boss battles, I could have done without.

Overall, if you're looking for a good throwback to the old-style Sonic games, this is one to pick up.

sonic rush is a great game... its a great balance of speed and just plain old fast reflex bending tests...
considering your moving fast enough to make a sonic boom it gives great tests to your reflexs not to mention the entire fact its just plain ol fun to play.. blaze is awesome and sonics just sonic..

there are a few minor complaints i have about rush.. the voice acting is very sub par but for a haldheld platform its decent.. the story is lacking fiber mainly... oh lets follow this person their not here but some other sonic character is.. oh their in this place over here... -chase chase chase- ame ends basically...

the special stages start out tame and all but the last emerald is freakin IMPOSSIBLE for me atleast to get... but over all i definately give rush a 4/5 asfar as the sonic haldheld gens go.. but stacked upto sonic adventure even its lackin alot.... so compaired to that.. its like 1.5 or so...
