Sony BDV-E780W 5.1 Channel Home Theater System

Purchased this product for the price point with features and apps.

The sound is great. Of course the wireless sound is "fake" but for a most they will not notice the difference between quality sound and this sony system. Actually if I would not have a home theater system (Onkyo/Jamo)I would not notice the reproduced sound flaw in the Sony system.

The good:
All the apps make this a great value. Netflix, Pandora, Amazon Prime and the rest.
The GUI is nice and simple better then the PS3.
Streaming and connecting to the home network was simple and rarely drops the signal. The remote is OK.

The Bad:
4 of 5 for the lack of a display and on screen display when using apps. This is annoying to have to get up and look at the display to see what audio mode you are in.

The power saver feature - turn this off otherwise the system locks up and the plug must be pulled to reset the system.

The center speaker is terrible - buy a better one.

All things considered I replaced a Samsung POS that I paid $800 for and only made it one year before Blu-Rays would not longer play and all of you already know Samsung customer service is horrible so I am done with them forever.

With all the features of the Sony system and the fact I have a old Sony 5.1 from 1997 in my garage that is still kicken and sounds great I would recommend this product if you can get by the lack of a display....I hope they fired the brain dead engineer who thought of placing the display on the top of blu ray...the only way you can read it is to stand on top of the machine.

My wife and I recently purchased the Sony BDV-E780W system. We already owned the Sony NSX40GT1 40" Google TV and wanted to keep the living area as less cluttered as possible, including minimizing the number of remotes on the coffee table. This system filled all our needs perfectly.

Pros: Installing the system is straight forward and the instructions are detailed. It has more features than we will every need or use and is fairly simple to operate. The HomeShare Network is a real plus in our option, allowing us to play music throughout the house and outside without running wires.

Cons: There are no settings for Treble and Bass, instead you must play with the variety of Surround modes / effects and adjust the speaker levels to achieve the desired sound. The display is also somewhat inconvenient, as it is on the top of the player and not on the front. You can not see it setting down but instead have to be standing over the unit.

Overall: Its a great system with a few flaws that suffices very well for everyday use as a home theater and radio, without having serval pieces to accommodate in our limited space.

This system is a great buy for the money! Installation was simple, and the sound optimization microphone really works good! The wifi is awesome! From Netflix to Pandora, we are really enjoying the sound and hd video. The only thing I wish is that they would provide a keyboard to use the internet access, and make the remote a little simpler. The Blu Ray Rocks! We dont have a 3d televsion yet, but are excited to try it out!

Great sound system! Sounded awesome with any of my DVDs. I will note, you need to have an optical digital cable if you don't have an ARC HDMI port on your TV. Didn't see that anywhere and I couldn't use the system just with the TV until I purchased that. Other than that easily corrected speed bump, it's perfect.
