truly outstanding performance in HDTV mode
Created: 08/10/06
I bought this TV and enjoyed its performance. Before buying this TV, I was planning to get HD from DirectTV. But they wanted $100 plus a two year contract to get me set up with HD. So I decided to try HD over the air with an RCA indoor antenna. I am truly amazed at the performance of this TV when receiving HD programming over the air. This is leaps above anything I have seen or heard with Satellite/Cable. This is true especially with HD broadcasts. One little side thing is many channels broadcast multiple channels in digital (not all of them are HD) which seem to preserve the quality when received over the air.
One thing I did not like is the remote that came with it. This TV cannot be programmed with my DirectTV(which I still am keeping because of ESPN and the like) remote or this remote cannot be programmed to control DirectTV receiver. Its a minor hitch for an otherwise outstanding television.
I bought this TV because of Sony brand name, LCD technology and reasonable pricing( This is one of the few products where Sony was not able to charge premium because they were late to LCD party ).

Fabulous television. We paid a little more for this than we had set out to do but the premium was well spent. Vivid picture, loaded with features, easy to use. As with most of these televisions, the built in speakers are small and so deliver tinny sound -- you'll need to go out to external speakers. If using cable or sattelite, run the sound from the box to the tv and from the tv to the speakers (as opposed to directly from the cable box to the speakers)--you'll be able to tinker with the sound quality in that way. Complaint: the jacks aren't recessed enough in the back...if you mount this television on a stand or on the wall, the connections will be very tight. (There are RCA and s-video connectors on the side). Consideration: don't use the built in stand if you can avoid it. These televisions are heavy and easy to tip. We moundted ours on a stand -- it has a slight back-lean to it giving the television stability and also lifts the screen to a comfortable viewing angle. Another consideration: we got the 40-inch model because we were concerned the picture size would overwhelm our living room. For high-def channels, I wish we had gotten a little bigger but for regular channels the picture is sometimes noticeably grainy. I'd say 40 inches is good for a viewing distance of 8 or 9 feet. If you are going to sit farther, consider going up in size.

Sony bravia versus sharp aquos
Created: 08/12/07
i needed a nice LCD flat screen tv for korea. i was undecided between the sharp aquos and sony bravia. i am a big sony fan but the determining factor was picture and HD connection for what i was using the television for...i went to best buy and visually compared the two. the sharp model was outstanding but the only thing that it couldn't do that the sony did was compensate for the black/white deepness (different shades of black/white was in the back ground) sony perfected that...sharp picture, awesome sound for the same price...it was also lighter and easier to use. the set up menu take some use to get to but it is worth it

this tv is great! i bought it to replace my sony pfm-42x1 plasma and i could not be happier.the picture quality is outstanding and the sound as well. it has many input options and they all perform well. i only buy sony televisions as the have lasted longer than any t.v.'s out there.i have a laptop, cable box,dvd player, three game systems and my camcorder hooked up to the t.v. and it handles like a pro. one nice option is you dont have to keep pressing tv/video to swap inputs as you can jump to the input you like as well as having all inputs labeled. makes life a little easier. h.d. quality is perfect as you have come to expect.the tv mounts to a wall very easily or you may use the supplied stand.overall i would say to buy this t.v. i have had no problems with it and i get compliments about it all the time. you get what you pay for and with sony you get quality with style. hope this helps!

very good all around tv

I spent months researching TV's trying to figure out what would best fit the budget and my needs. This tv's kept me very pleased so far. All HD content looks amazing. Its got all the adjustments I could ask for. The menu system on the TV works flawlessly and being able to rename inputs is a nice touch. My one complaint with this set and most of the sony line is the amount of connections, 1 hdmi and 2 component just really doesnt cut it now a days. Even the $1100 vizios have more connections. I've got my HD box, xbox 360 and ps3 on it and now im out of options with out geting a switcher. Other then that im 100% pleased with its functionality and picture quality.
