For subjects that cannot be approached, either because of distance or inaccessibility, this powerful 35mm format compatible telephoto zoom is the perfect solution. Offering a zoom range equivalent to 112.5 - 450mm when mounted on an APS-C format digital SLR, it captures your compositions with natural perspective at the low end of its zoom range, and with dramatically compressed perspective at the high end. This versatile performance makes it suitable for everything from sports and wildlife to landscapes and candid snapshots. And with a minimum shooting distance of just 1.5m/59" and maximum magnification of 0.25x, it lets you produce stunning, full-frame close-ups with ease.Built for easy portability and comfortable handling, the 75 - 300mm F4.5 - 5.6 (SAL75300) features 13 elements in 10 groups, a distance encoder for ADI flash metering, and a 7-blade circular aperture for crisp imaging and beautiful defocusing. Team it with a second zoom lens in the wide-angle to standard focal length range, and you've got a two-lens combo that can handle virtually any subject you're likely to encounter.

Telephoto pictures in Israel

Created: 10/03/10
I bought a Sony 75-300 lens specifically for a trip to Israel. I took some pictures from Mount Zion, across the Kidron Valley, probably a kilometer or two, of the buildings in Jerusalem. One picture of the building of The Dome of The Rock was so clear you could see a ladder going up to a door in the side of the dome. Pictures are so clear I am thinking about getting a 2X adapter to go with it. It seems to work very smooth and will focus fast enough for some quick point and shoot pictures. I think I used it more than the lens that came on the camera, a Sony a100 digital SLR.

Sony Lense for a Sony A100 DSLR Camera

SONY Lense for my SONY A100 DSLR Camera.
I am a stickler for clear and concise focus when I take pictures.
This is achieved quite easily with a SONY Lense.
The action and smooth operation of the lense make it a great compliment to the A100 body. I am even impressed with the AUTO focus and the depth of field. You point and set the trigger on the object you want to focus on...near or far. Then fully depress the trigger, and you capture what you want.
Would rate this lense a 5 out of 5 in it's class.

Obsolete dslr lens?

Created: 07/06/09
Bought the SAL75300 lens for my new Sony a200 camera. Camera came with a 18-70 mm lens, which is a very good general lens. Pictures I take are primarily of working or competing high school students (technical education), wich are hands-on, action pictures. No 2nd.chances, no posing, no getting close to the subjects. The SAL75300 can be zoomed in close enough to get good, clear pictures of faces and action, especially since the camera can be set up to automatically adjust all settings relative to distance and light conditions. The size of the lens is atually small, and doesn't weigh much, considering the range. I understand that this particular lens is not being manufactured any more, but they are still avaiable. Pictures taken with the Sony alpha and SAL75300 generated many unsolicited and favorable comments from students, staff and parents. Important, when lay people notice a marked difference in the quality of pictures. In my opinion, a very versatile, reasonably priced lens, worth considering when investing in a SONY DSLR camera.

Sony Zoom Lens

I love this lens. It takes awesome photos. It is a little slow using auto focus but otherwise I love it. Powerful zoom, light weight and easy to carry wherever you go. Clear focused pictures perfect for sports and portraits that don't make people feel closed in.

Sony SAL75300 - a beautiful lens

Created: 07/06/09
This is one of the most beautiful lenses for the Minolta AF / Sony mount.
I'm using it quite often, and sold a couple of them in Hungary.
The optic is not very good. Old design, not digitally optimized. Almost no geometric distortions, but quite high chromatic aberration. 1.5m minimum focus distance - too far.
However, I like it.
