Movie synopsis
A champion surfer loses her left arm in a terrifying shark attack, but summons the determination to make an incredible comeback in this inspirational sports drama based on an incredible true story. A lifelong surfer who always felt at home in the sea, Bethany Hamilton (AnnaSophia Robb) honed her surfing skills in Kauai, and went on to compete in numerous surfing competitions. Then, one fateful Halloween morning, the wave-riding teen was taking part in a national surf competition when a 14-foot-long tiger shark emerged from the depths and changed her life in the blink of an eye. By the time Bethany reached shore, her left arm was almost completely gone. But just when it started to look like she would never ride a surfboard again, young Bethany used her faith and determination to reclaim the title of champion while being cheered on by her supportive parents (Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt), and Sara (Carrie Underwood), the kind-hearted leader of a local youth group.

) Soul Surfer will give any age viewer an honest look of youth at its best. Bethany Hamilton's story of loosing her arm while surfing was world news, then a book, and now done in film form. It's an amazing story of one girl, her family, her friends, her church, and what can be accomplished not only through recovery but a continuing life of giving others an outlook of HOPE. She is one remarkable girl, a must-see film. I'm from the Islands, and the scenes made me homesick. Beautiful scenes, must see !!!
Regardless of faith preference, Bethany has to give others with similar struggles a leap in optimism. For those who have been fortunate to never before dealt with a life/death episode; this can give you a taste of what it is like. This child looked to her faith.

Inspirational movie....dealing with what life sends you. It shows you that life may throw many things at you. The beauty of surfing, life, family and the Lord will get you where you are needing to be.

Soul Surfer is one of the top ten movies of all I have seen. This is one you do not want to miss with your family, and the special features on the dvd about Bethany Hamilton's real life is as good as the movie itself. She has truly been an inspiration in the tragedy of her life.

This movis is a must see for all family members. I love movies that have a faith story. I visited the North Shore where this girl was attacked. I saw how much the community has supported the family and was impressed by Kauai and their overall friendliness. The movie is so good and I recommend all watch this and have anyone they know watch it.

) I love this movie. I am 65 and not into teen movies but this movie is for everyone. It is inspirational combined with beautiful surfing scenes off the Hawaiian coasts. Amazing footage and fun for the whole family.
