Album Notes
Avenged Sevenfold: M. Shadows (vocals, acoustic guitar, keyboards); Zacky Vengeance, Synyster Gates (guitar); Dameon Ash (bass); The Reverend Tholomew Plague (drums).Additional personnel: Valary Di Benedetto, Mr. Plague (sound effects).Producers: Donald Cameron, Avenged Sevenfold.Engineers: Donald Cameron, Avenged Sevenfold.Recorded at Westbeach, Hollywood, California.Avenged Sevenfold would develop and refine their metalcore sound on later releases, but 2001's SOUNDING THE SEVENTH TRUMPET, the band's debut, announced the arrival of a force to be reckoned with. The Southern California outfit's mix of straightforward melodic metal with extreme punk and death metal tendencies creates a sonic wallop that bludgeons from the opener "To End the Rapture" through each of its 13 tracks. The screams of vocalist M. Shadows, along with the thunderous rhythms and furious riffs, can the flay the skin, alternating with more melodic passages and harmonies. This is an early gem from one of the key players in the genre.

Where it all started.

I started listening to Avenged Sevenfold when most others did, after the release of their popular sophomore album, Waking the Fallen. Well I was curious about this release and after picking it up I found it to be much better than Waking the Fallen.

Sounding the Seventh Trumpet is produced in a different way than anything they have done after this (City of Evil, Waking the Fallen) which gives it a raw feeling and sort of an underground one as well. M. Shadows's vocal work on this disk is harsh and reminiscent of the Casualties. This is complimented by the hardcore punk sound made by the bands dual guitar work. The drumming is the showcase of any of the instruments, the loud thud of the double bass drums echoed by the trash-like sound of the snare and dynamic cymbals. It's no wonder why the band went on to do great things, especially with a solid foundation like this.

The soungs range from fast paced angry hardcore punk like to a touching piano ballad called "Warmness on the Soul". This purchase is definetly worth the money for any fan of the band or even a fan of hard music in general.

Avenged Sevenfold - Sounding the Seventh Trumpet

This is Avenged Sevenfold's first album. It's a great album and has many good songs to offer. If your a fan of Avenged since the beginning or not you'll like this album. It has much to offer from beginning to end. Their style has changed from their first album, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, to their newest album, self titled, Avenged Sevenfold. In the beginning there was more screaming and on their later albums it's more singing and screaming as well. Either way, no matter what, this album is 100% phenomenal! If you like Avenged Sevenfold at all you'll appreciate this album. Get it!

What are these guys thinking?

Avenged is a band to be looked up to by all. How can you hold there genesis albums to the same standards as their "prime time" album. Theres nothing punk about this band. The very "twangy" and sharp lead guitars flow perfectly with the beefy rythym lines. Absolutely amazing the way these guys compose. Not yourr average musician. In this album its a little harsher than their more obvious vocal led recent albums. I had to buy this album because it would not be right to call myself a fan until I heard all their music, but as always I was left impressed.
