As such, the original SPIDER-MAN movie featured a preponderance of nu-metal and neo-grunge that was not only appropriate to the film's fast-action pace, but also wildly popular in 2002.Times and tastes change, though, and for 2004's SPIDER-MAN 2, Chad Kroeger, Alien Ant Farm, and Black Lab are replaced by equally energetic, but decidedly less metallic delegates from the pop (Train, Maroon 5), rock (the Ataris, Jet), and emo (Dashboard Confessional, Midtown) camps. After a quick old-guard showing from Smile Empty Soul, the disc wraps up with several bits of score music from the timelessly appropriate Danny Elfman. A good aural representation of both the super-hero and shy-student sides of the Spider-Man/Peter Parker dichotomy, this soundtrack is an exciting listen for mainstream music fans and Spidey buffs alike.

Not enough "music from", and too much "inspired by"

Being a Spidey fan, I had to get this album. Before purchasing it, I knew there wouldn't much of Danny Elfman's score.

After going through the tracks a couple times I decided to write this review. There's nothing wrong with the songs themselves, I just feel there's no connection between these songs and Spider-Man. I would have preferred songs dedicated to Spider-Man (or even to Doc Ock) like that "Superman's Song" by Crash Test Dummies; or "Superman (It's Not Easy)" by Five For Fighting for Superman.

For those who are into the music that's around the release of the movie, this is *perfect* for you. I said it earlier, there's nothing wrong with them at all. But for me, a collector who's more interested in the background instrumental music, there's not much here. If half of the tracks on this album were Elfman's score, I would have bumped the score up to 4/5.

Avoid this album if you're looking for Elfman's score of the movie, pick up "Spider-Man 2 Original Motion Picture Score" instead.

Buy this album if you want good songs. I'll be keeping this album handy for road trips, parties, and whenever I feel the need to rock when I'm alone at home.

Once I saw the video for Train's "Ordinary" on the Spider-man 2 DVD, I had to have this album. Actually my favorite song from the album is the first once, "Vindicated" by Dashboard Confessional. This album does not include the film's original score, but it does include songs that rock and seem to fit the movie's story just fine, in my opinion.
