    Relax with Spyro

Spyro is an excellent game for younger players. Simple concept and action, no adult content.

The game play is simple enough for pre-teen players, but still enough of a challenge to keep the older players interested. Simple quests; like collect all the jewels or rings. No threatening time limits, at least none in the first few levels that I can remember.

And the over-all cuteness of the game has to count for something :)

    Enter the Disappointment

     | No, I would not recommend this product.

I remember getting this game back in 2003 as the fourth game to my Spyro collection; I was around 10 years old at the time. Before that, I had all 3 of the previous games which I loved, and I hoped I would enjoy this one just as much. But unfortunately, despite the amazing graphics, it did not give me the same feeling it's predecessors had.

Like I said before, the graphics and detail are definitely improved. They don't look as pixely or boxy like the usual PS1 games do. But the gameplay is horrible - for one thing, I absolutely hate having to use the analog instead of the D-Pad, which is one reason why I don't play PS2 games. Also, the camera seemed to have issues; it would move smoothly during one minute then slow the next. It would make me kind of dizzy during the fighting/action parts of the game.

And last but certainly not least - the story of the game is retold again. Isn't Ripto supposed to be defeated already? I guess he was resurrected or something and now he's back stealing dragonflies, which Spyro must now rescue - after rescuing crystallized dragons and eggs. The dialogue is absolutely cheesy and poor, as if the developers of the game just threw it all together. It sounded very childish to me instead of the use of humor and sarcasm in the previous games.

I think the main problem is that Insomniac did not create this game, and I'm really sad that they gave up on the series. If they hadn't, we wouldn't have the Legend of Spyro crap we've got now. Oh, well, I'll just enjoy the classics I guess. :(

GameCube version has less bugs. The game's worth a try.

This is my 10-yr old daughter's opinion:

"Pros: good graphics for an earlier PS2 title, decent to good soundtrack, lasts a while with value, a little like the classics, good gameplay | Cons: Gets boring after about half an hour, collision is horrible, dragonflies are annoying, constant glitches, dull storyline, did I mention CONSTANT GLITCHES?!?!

Note: This is judged off the GameCube version and the PS2 version bugs added into it.
I will tell you what kind of gamer I am so you understand my judgment-

I am a die-hard Spyro fan (I have so many collectables it’s not funny); I am mostly into action, adventure, RPG and strategy games; I finish medium difficulty games in usually a week (Then, add on collectables and bonuses, I usually complete games entirely); and I am an XBox 360 achievement LOVER… boy, can’t go past those.

Now! Spyro The Dragon made the beginning of his debuts in 1998. The titles that came after Spyro’s first game, Gateway to Glimmer (Better known as Ripto’s Rage) and Year of The Dragon, were huge successes. After Year of The Dragon, Season of Ice was released. Beyond that were Season of Flame and Enter the Dragonfly- and the REAL review starts here...

Even though I AM a die-hard Spyo fan, the storyline is boring. It's a ripto- and- dragonfly version of Year of The Dragon. And Year of The Dragon felt too copied from GTG/RR!. Not in storyline, but in gameplay. The storyline is probably one of the worst parts of the game which is a shame...

considering it has good gameplay. But everything in this game has a problem. The thing wrong with the gameplay is that it gets boring quickly and the collision and dragonfly-catching pull it down.

Another thing wrong with the game is the constant amount of glitches. seriously, if half a level's missing, you might as well not have the level (this was fixed in later copies of the game.)!

Soundtrack has some decent tunes but what's wrong with it? It's not that interesting and I STRONGLY dislike some parts of the music.

All-in-all, unless the copy you're buying isn't pre-owned, go for the GameCube version. That one wasn't so rushed which takes out most of the bugs, and later copies were even better. So, the bottom line is, 'fun gameplay, but a lot of things pull it down'."

    Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly PS2

    Created: 09/10/06
I like all kinds of games. It doesn't make a difference whether the game isn't the best. I just love the Spyro games and I have almost all of them. This game is interesting and fun to play. This game will also make you laugh as well at some of the things that the characters do and say. This game is great for children to play. My 7 year old daughter loves this game. Thanks for looking at my review on this game.
