    Movie synopsis

Regarded by many as the best Western ever made, STAGECOACH shot John Wayne to stardom and elevated the prestige of a genre that had hitherto been considered a B-movie province. With rumors in the air of a possible Apache attack, a motley group of travelers in a small New Mexico town board the Overland Stage bound for Lordsburg. Among them are the pregnant Lucy Mallory (Louise Platt); timid liquor salesman Peacock (Donald Meek); Hatfield, an aloof gambler (John Carradine); Gatewood (Berton Churchill), a pompous, embezzling banker; and two who have been exiled from town, alcoholic Doc Boone (Thomas Mitchell) and Dallas (Clair Trevor), a lady of the evening. Along the trail, they pick up the Ringo Kid (John Wayne), an outlaw who's escaped from prison to take revenge on the Plummer brothers for destroying his family and framing him for murder. As their journey progresses, the hypocrisy of the supposedly respectable passengers becomes clear, and it's the tainted outsiders who display courage and humanity. Described by Orson Welles, who watched the film innumerable times before making CITIZEN KANE, as his cinematic textbook, STAGECOACH is superbly made in every respect, layering humor and sharp characterization into an exciting plot that includes a spectacularly photographed chase in Monument Valley.

This 1939 oater has ALL the elements of a classic horse opera. This is the movie
that made John Wayne an 'A' list star. He does a great job as Ringo, the vengeful cowboy with a heart of gold. But for my money Claire Trevor is radiant as the fallen woman who captures Ringo's heart. James Mitchell also turns in a fine performance as drunken 'Doc' Boone. It's a shame there doesn't seem to be roles like this or good character actors to fill them in today's pictures. Stagecoach is also full of classic John Ford shots and music score. How could it possibly get any better. Hitch your mount to the rail, grab a sasperilla and enjoy!

    The truth of movie collecting.

I have always been a great John Wayne fan. Being so, I have a great knowledge of the man and his life. He, as so few other actors, was a man who just played himself! The movie "Stagecoach" was the movie that really launched his career. He played many earlier movies but people really noticed him in this movie because of the character and personality he percieves. It seems that after thios movie John Waynes career just skyrocketed. I had hoped that this movie that i purchased, would be new, and in condition that i could keep on collecting. I found it to be just that. In stores this film at best is a used film and i refuse to buy any of those. You never know the real condition, unless played and than if it is faulty it is too late. I liked this because it was never opened, and I didn't have to worry about someone not taking care of the DVD. I find that I will buy more for just thye reason that the honesty i have found here on e-bay ia all i need.

It was a good movie, with the duke how could it be anything else.
The picture quality was excelent. The plot exciting.
However I dissagre with the critics that this was the best western ever,I like the "Man who shot Liberty Valance" a little better.
I bought it as I have heard it was a good movie, and like most Wayne films.

This is a great movie with the Duke as expected from him. IT is an earlier film when hes was pretty young so it does lack some of the special effects most of his later movies had but it is still a great watch. Another thing is that its in black and white instead of color due to the time period it was made which is a downside, but again it is a really good movie.
